Save Your Change
I walk into the bank tonight with a ziploc bag of change. Thinking it may be only like $20 or around there, I got the reciept.....$45.00 I know its not a lot, but your change adds up quick! Yes, I am one of those annoying customers who always tells the cashier.."Sorry, I have no change"! I cashed it about $45 2 weeks ago too!
ETA: I use Commerce "Penny Machine" (its free)

The "Penny Arcade" at commerce bank has no service charge, and you dont' have to have a commerce account to use it.

Dh and I save all our change for vacations- once we had $600!
We always take it to Waldbaums near us- they have a coinstar machine.

Re: Save Your Change
We always save our change. We saved before our wedding, for extra spending money for our honeymoon. Well, we used a big plastic bottle, from those UTZ cheese doodles. Well, with all the change and some singles we threw in at times, we had $650 . We also save in a jar we have and I usually cash it every few months. We have always had at leadt $90 in there each time I cash it!!

Re: Save Your Change
We use an empty water cooler container and always put our change in it. I'm hoping to fill it up and use it for a 5 year anniversary trip.

Re: Save Your Change
Is it all Commerce Banks that have it?? I would love to go. We save up our change too and we have a ton right now. We did when we were saving for the wedding too and had around $600 but the CoinStar machine takes a big percentage!

Re: Save Your Change
Coinstar takes approx. 8.25%. Sales tax. Heck of a lot easier than rolling those pennies!!!! I will go to the commerce bank now and try that "penny arcade!"

I saved the UTZ party snack size container and it's half filled and A LOT are quarters. We are always throwing in change. DH's parents save their change all the time and go on vacation with it.

Re: Save Your Change
DO NOT DO COINSTAR!!!! They take WAY too much in commission. If you have $100. they easily take at least $8. That's ridiculous.
Commerce Banks machines are free. I know my credit union BFCU it's free to members.
I teach Economics and tell all of my students to do this.
For people in debt it's one of the ways you can help pay down credit card debt. Apply the amount of the change to your monthly payment if you can't pay it all off in full.

Re: Save Your Change
Commerce Bank is definitley your best deal. You dont have to have an account (im pretty sure) and its free! The machine is actually "fun" to use too. The bank has great hours and are open 7 days a week. LOL I should be a spokesperson for them I really do love how change "adds up".

I agree- coinstar charges a lot. When we started doing it coinstar was our only option (besides rolling it)/
But I heard Commerce is great and free.

Re: Save Your Change
I always save change- and I also don't spend my $1 bills. If something is like $1.10, I'll just give the cashier a ten dollar bill and save the singles with my change- it adds up so quick and you don't miss the money. I occasionally do this with $5 bills to, but that is not as easy.

DH does this too! I cant save my $1.00's I dont know why. LOL..Hes very good about it. We lock them up in a "safe" and they do add up very quickly. Comes in handy when I need "lunch money" too. I did do this for our wedding, with the 2 of us saving, it helped with the "tipping"! However, I just cant do it anymore. I should try though! Maybe go away for our anniversary.
