Saving pics from your computer?
I have tons of pictures and want to save them onto something in case my computer should ever crash. I always have trouble saving them onto a disc and heard you can save them on theose little flash drives and they save just as many pics as a disc. I bought a cheap flash drive at Target and tried saving the pics to it and it just seemed way too easy. It took me 5 seconds to save a bunch of pics. What does everyone else do and are those flash drives as easy as they seem?

Re: Saving pics from your computer?
a flash drive is just another storage place like your "My Documents" folder on your computer.
All you have to do is COPY & PASTE
Not sure what problem you have burning cd's. You can make a data cd or dvd. DVD can hold thousands of more pictures then a cd.
Personally, mine are stored on 2 hard drives and on DVD disc (10,000+ pictures dating back to 2000 )

I have all my pictures/files saved on the hard drive & an external hard drive as a back up.
I also have all my pictures stored on shutterfly.

Re: Saving pics from your computer?
-I upload all of my photos to Kodakgallery.com (or any online website)
- then keep them on an external hard drive.
Keep in mind that the CDs you burn have a shelf-life of 7-10 years.

Re: Saving pics from your computer?
I'm considering buying this:
SmugMug
It's $40 for the year, but when you upload the photos, they are in the ORIGINAL size and format, which is not the case on many of the "free" sites like Snapfish and Kodak Gallery. They also store your photos in 4 different locations so that you don't have to worry about having another place to store them (i.e. an external drive or CDs). They also make it very simple to print from their website to your home printer in the original high resolution.
My boss and another person here highly recommend it. The other guy that works here has been doing professional photography on the side for years and thinks this is the best site ever. Food for thought...

Re: Saving pics from your computer?
The flash drives are much easier, faster, and hold much more than CDs. CDs hold 700MB, DVDs hold about 4GB (4000MB), and a memory stick can hold up to 8GB. I store my photos on my home PC, my laptop, and my work PC. I have over 10GB of photos, so I use an external 250GB USB drive to store and transfer the photos as well.
It's a good idea to have copies of your photos stored in a different building than the "originals". That way, if your house burns, or your PC is stolen, you still have the photos somewhere else. That's why I keep them at work. Off-site photo storage sites are good, too, as long as they can keep the original images.
