Saw Dr. Chu today
I saw Dr. Chu and showed her my treatment protocol from Dr. Scher.
She thought I was referring to Dr. Geoffrey Sher...and asked , why I don't just cycle there. I told her Dr. J Scher is a high risk ob/gyn and not a RE,....how his practice is dedicated to miscarriages and IVF failures. When I explained to her that Dr. Owen Davis sends his patients to Dr. Scher she was a bit more interested.
She basically said I can do what Dr. Scher is advising as long as I am aware of the risks. She personally doesn't believe it makes a difference. She also doesn't believe progesterone suppositories make a difference but if a patient is more comfortable with them she prescribes them. She said she considers herself quite conservative.
Thankfully she didn't see my lovenox bruises from last cycle lol....
She believes I will get pregnant despite all this treatment.
Honestly, my head spins by the difference in opinions all these doctors have

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
A question- Does Dr Sher then based on what you say NOT believe you will get PG without the protocol he prescribed?
And what did he reccommend that is atypical from NSUH or any other RE you have seen?
You can FM if you dont feel comfortable sharing...
Thanks!

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
I don't see Dr. Sher. Dr. Sher is a RE who is the director and founder of SIRM. His clinics are nationwide.
I saw Dr. Jonathon Scher who is a high risk ob/gyn. Getting pregnant really isn't the issue, miscarrying is. Dr. Scher doesn't want me to miscarry and yes he believes without this protocol I have a high risk for miscarriage.
He also believes that I could have had fertilized eggs that weren't able to implant. In fact, before his protocol I ran temps in the low 99's...this past cycle my temps were actually normal. My body could have been fighting off the embryo like it was an infection.
This cycle was really a 'time off' cycle because I had a polyp removed, a few days before O. However, my temps were finally in a normal range. Another thing, Dr. Scher and Dr. Spandorfer wanted "out"...and other RE's didn't put emphasis on.
There is a whole other entity to reproduction called 'reproductive immunology". Dr. Scher is part of that mindset. He is part of Mount Sinai Hospital which specializes in organ transplants. He treats pregnancy almost the same way as one would treat getting a new kidney. If you have antibodies that fight off what's foreign, it can also affect your embryo.
If Dr. Owen Davis sends patients to Dr. Scher, I believe there is something great about what Dr. Scher is doing. In fact, if you ever meet him, you will know what I mean.
Dr. Alan Beer, is another pioneer doctor who is renowned for what he is doing in the field of reproductive immunology. If you read up on what he does with patients and listen to some of the interviews....you will be amazed to find out how many women with failed IVFs he has helped. http://www.repro-med.net/
The fact that I have a thyroid issue that's considered autoimmune is what made me seek this information...
This type of thinking is not for everyone. You need to think "outside the box".

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
AHHH..thanks for explaining.. I understood some of it.
I was more wondering what the difference was. I meant Dr Scher...sorry about the typo...I thought he was more for after getting PG...so I was wondering about the differences you said there was in the protocols between NSUH and him...although you didnt mention anything?
I was going to bring up the immune possibility based on my losses, but I read the info on Dr Beers page and I dont fit the category for being indicative of needing immune testing since we knew what caused my M/C and stillborn.
I hope you find the "right" treatment for you...and get a BFP soon!!

Ding, ding, ding!!!! During my last I-don't-know-how-many IVF's I ran a low grade fever after ER/ET....

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
Michelle - I'm so glad that the appointment went well and Dr. Chu is willing to listen to your input and move along with it. I think that is so important.
What you said about your body fighting off the embryo is so true. In every book regarding pregnancy that I have read, they always make mention that your body surpresses your immune system so it doesn't fight off the embryo, which is a foreign object in your body!
I really hope all your running around, needle pricks and appointments lead to your BFP!

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
Good luck and lots of to you. Are you doing IUI or IVF this cycle?
You mentioned that all these doctors have different opinions. Working in medicine, I have seen this soooo many times. But you now what, that is how medicine evolves. Doctors have theories and favorite treatments all the time. They either continue to do the same thing, add new ideas, and drop old ones. Thats how medicine evolves. I honestly dont think there is a right or wrong. You will ALWAYS find someone with a different opinion. For now, I put my faith in my doctor. Right or wrong I have to trust him. I may change my mind at some point and I will always educate myself about different avenues, but for me I have to trust my doctor.

Re: Saw Dr. Chu today
Thank you everyone for your support. I appreciate all the positive feedback.
I agree with you Pauline, this is how things evolve. Teaching is the same way. You can meet two different teachers with entirely different methodology and both can be excellent. However, some students excel with one type and not another. Finding a doctor who will look at you as an individual is so important. I completely trust Dr. Scher ...and I am glad Dr. Chu was open and is allowing me to move forward using the protocol he has set.
I am doing clomid/IUI...

I'm glad to hear that Dr. Chu is allowing you to go ahead with Dr. Scher's protocol. Although she may not beleive in it, at least she is allowing you to control your treatment...hopefully all of this will of course lead to that nice big fat positive
