Optically I think this looks bad for the US. But, I am curious why else you think this is bad. The entire agreement is voluntary, with nations being encouraged to lower emissions but not mandated to do so. There are no consequences if you don't. If in 5 years when they check in you haven't done anything nothing happens. The US has to contribute a lot of money to be part of the deal (100 bullion a year) yet countries like China, who is the number one offender has contributed nothing.
Honestly the agreement sounds like a way to help save the planet but in reality it does nothing concrete to make sure that happens.
I think people like to get mad about things like this but in reality they don't know much about it and will still jump in their giant, gas guzzling SUVs to go pick up their kids this afternoon.
How many of us actually walk the walk that we are so outraged that the US isn't doing?
Where are you getting this $100 billion per year information? From what I've read it's $10 billion collectively. We pledged $3 billion but so far have only given $1 billion.
We support other countries financially for so many things, I don't see why clean energy isn't an important investment for all of us. Not to mention, we are one of the top contributers to green house gases so we owe it to other countries to do something substantial about it.

You will see varying amounts as you read different periodicals. The reality is if it is 1 dime it is too much considering the pact doesn't actually do anything. I would rather see any money we were willing to give to it used right here in the US to work on environmental efforts.
I would love to hear what people think we are getting our of being part of the pact other than saving face with the rest of the world.

Here's another source that somewhat explains the difference between the two numbers.

I saw somewhere that 70% of Americans support remaining in the deal. I also saw that Mitt Romney was in favor. Now we're in good company with Syria and Nicaragua.
Actually the only reason Nicaragua isn't in it is because they felt it wasn't strict enough!!
and well... Syria... they are/were in a war... so...
we have no excuse

I haven't done any research - but if this regime doesn't even believe in climate change then why should anyone do anything since the planet is fine?
Do they even propose any solutions for the US? Solar? Wind?

Since 2000 the US has reduced our emissions by 30% most if this wasn't because if government mandates. Companies and people can still do things to help reduce emissions. The Paris agreement asked all these countries to reduce emissions by a certain amount in 5 years. If they don't nothing happens. The more developed countries have to donate money (a lot of it) which will help fund smaller countries work on this. Fun a gas not committed to reducing anything and doesn't contribute any money. How does that make sense? They are number 1 on the list and i would say they are a developed country yet have contributed nothing. They are in it to save face. Nicaragua had a point that it doesn't go far enough. If this was a serious agreement they would have determined consequences if the deal wasn't met in 5 years time. They would have made countries like China pony up their share of $ to help. What fund funny is these celebrities who are out raged yet they fly in private Jets and have mansions and armies of cars that give off a hell of a lot of emissions.

This is so misleading. China has pledged close to $3b to a separate fund to help developing countries reduce emissions. source

What efforts through this agreement are you worried about? My hope is the country will continue what they have been doing. No government mandates needed. We are already making progress.
