saying hello and also asking a question
I've been lurking on the TTC board for almost 2 years now...
Went off BCP in October 2005 after having been on them for almost 5 years. Tried on and off for about a little over a year and then this past winter started looking into what was wrong. Had an HSG test which came back normal, an internal sonogram which also came back normal. I have extremely regular periods and generally ovulate between day 9 and 11 and AF usually shows between day 25 and 27. DH had a semen analysis which came back low for volume but the urologist did a sonogram and there were no blockages and said that we should still be able to conceive.
After stalling a little more, I went back to the doctor and just filled my prescription for clomid. Today was the first day of AF and I'm supposed to start clomid on Friday. She wants me to take it for 4 months and then she'll refer me to a specialist.
So, I've decided to make the move here where I've been lurking also and just wanted to say hi!
My question is about the clomid...is there a specific time of day to take it with? It didn't say on the prescription...I'm just planning on taking it in the morning and wanted to make sure that was okay.
Thanks!!

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
Hi! I hope you have great success with clomid! When I was on it, I found it easiest to take it at night. I felt like I could deal with the side effects better. I don't think it matters, though. Whatever you feel most comfortable with. As time went by, and the dr upped my dosage, the side effects seemed to worsen, so I switched from taking it in the morning to taking it at night.
Good luck!!

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
I agree with the pp, there's no set time of day you should take it. I'm a wuss when it comes to taking medication, so I take it at night just before I go to bed, so I'm not too bothered by any side effects.
G/L and hopefully your stay on this board will be short!

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
first off welcome I took clomid for the first time last cycle. I took it at night also, not for any other reason then I read posts of others doing that. I don't see how it could help with side effects as it is in your blood, but I did it anyway.
good luck

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
Just did my first Clomid 50 mg this month and I was very lucky, not side effects, just a little nauseous the first day, but then nothing. Truthfully, the 5 days I was on it were the calmest I have been since January. DH joked that maybe I could get a 30 day supply!!

my thinking in taking it at night was so that I was sleeping, so if I were to have side effects from it, I would basically sleep through it.
The trend for me though, is that I feel pretty normal on it, other than by day 3 or so, I get massive hot flashes late in the afternoon.

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
The only side effects I had from it were serious hot flashes. Like MrsRBK said, I started taking it at night and didn't have too many hot flashes during the day.

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
Just wanted to say good luck!
As far as Clomid, I had the hot flashes but that was it. I ended up going up to 150mg and that was still my only side effect (unless you ask DH, he'd say I was a b!tch, but I completely disagree )

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
Thanks everybody!!
I start the Clomid with just 50mg on Friday...I'll be prepared for the hot flashes which is okay b/c I'm generally always freezing..
Thanks again...I'm sure I'll be back with more questions!

I just started 50mg on Monday and so far no side effects besides possible dry mouth, which is no big deal to me!

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
I just wanted to say, ovulating on CD 9 is pretty early for someone with your cycle length. Have you had CD 3 testing? I'd be curious to see your estrogen levels.

I did have blood work done on CD3 right before my HSG and as far as I know everything came back normal.
Just wanted to say thanks for everyones advice...I'm on day 4 of the clomid without a side effect in sight. Its only the 50mgs for this month, but so far not a single hot flash!!

Re: saying hello and also asking a question
The first time I was on clomid I took it with dinner and within a few minutes, I was the moodiest and most emotional I had ever been. So after that I started taking it right before I went to bed. THis seemed to do the trick as I didnt have any side effects when I woke up. Good luck!
