Scarlet Fever
I am a teacher and I found out one of my students has Scarlet Fever. She was out of school most of this week, but she came back on Friday, on medicine. Could that be dangerous for me? Is that a silly question? Should I just call my doctor?

Re: Scarlet Fever
Oh boy, DH's neice had this and from what SIL told us she could not be around anyone b/c it is HIGHLY contagious to young and old. I would def call the dr. She was put on medicine too and then a month later was back in the hospital she had a staph infection in her bone on her leg!!! and they said it was from the scarlet fever. she was in the hospital for 2 weeks in isolation! she is now home taking meds again.
Call your dr asap! this just happened to DH's niece last month!

Re: Scarlet Fever
Im not a doctor BUT...I have 3 kids of my own + 2 step children...
Scarlet Fever is really just a Strep Throat with some added componant that causes the rash...From my understanding is that you can catch the sore throat and then be immune to the rash part..I believe kids are a more prone to the rash as they are they strep..
Just ask the doctor..I believe that should you develope Strep you can be treated just like any other type of infection or virus b4 it would effect the baby
MST9106..You are thinking of Rheumatic (sp?) Fever not Scarlet Fever...Rheumatic Fever can develope from either Scarlet Fever or a Simple Strep Infection..

I believe Scarlet Fever is far more dangerous than just a strep throat accompanied by rash...its a very serious virus that I was treated with penicillin shots as a child...it can debilitating to the central nervous system and other sensory nerves...I have a partial hearing loss (minute) due to the bacteria settling on my sensory nerve...its better to be safe than sorry. But if she was out for a week then you should be fine...most likely the virus is cured and she is just finishing off her meds.
