Scary thing happened tonigth.... choking!
DH fed DS some banana. That kid loves bananas. I told DH to be very careful. He likes to take big bits. DH told me yes and tells me how funny it is to watch DS trying to showel the banana.
Next thing I know I hear "NOTHING". DS making sounds like muted cries/scream.
I ran the fastest I ever did to the kitchen because I KNEW. Started "tapping" his back several times to disloge the piece and was about to shovel my fingers in his throat. Luckily the tapping on this back did the trick and the banana chunk (huge piece!!!) started to come out. DH grabbed it in his mouth.
I did not scream at DH. I told him that he was chocking and he did eat a big piece which I told him to be careful.
Of course DS cried but at that point, I was just relieved to even know he was breathing.
This is so scarry!

OMG, so scary!!!
Bananas are my son's favorite and he likes to shove them in his mouth and i hold my breath each time.
But please, tell me about this tapping thing? I would have the faintest idea on what to do and sounds like you knew what to do. WOuld you mind sharing? Where should you tap? What if that doesn't work? Then you pull it out with your fingers? I really should know these things and I don't.

Well, I have my CPR. I have had it for years now. I was part of a medical emergency team at my old job.
By tapping, I actually meant cupping. You do it between the shoulder blades. You cup your hand and tap his upper back. Most of the time that will be enough to do the trick.
I usually do cupping on DS in a lay down position when he caugh to losen up mucus in the lungs.
Honestly, not panicking is key in all emergency situations. I am just glad it worked, really!
I do suggest all parents take an infant/child CPR class.

I have to ask ... did you mean "DH" in the above statement? I reread it a few times and wondered why you would even consider screaming at DS. Then I realized that perhaps you meant DH?!

So glad that your son is OK. I saw this product at Babies R Us. I plan to buy it when it comes time to give my DS solids. Maybe you should try it. It looks like it would great with bananas.

I hate it!
Kristina has done it to me twice.
Once when she bit off a huge piece of zwieback, and today.... she jammed a few puffs in her mouth at the same time and started choking in the middle of WalMart....
