scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
So I've made 2 phone calls already to the Dr I've been referred to for this test and every time I'm getting more and more confused
When I asked about co-pay costs and if my insurance covers the procedure, the receptionist said " its 36.00 for the 1st visit and then the lab will bill you seperately"
Are there more than 1 visit for this test???? I'm so confused and don't want to call her back and look stupid

Well, the whole test is called the ultrascreen - the nuchal translucency is a sonogram and then the other part they test your blood. My doctor they did both at the office, but it sounds like your doctor is sending out for both tests.

Re: scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
The test is two parts. I had mine 2 weeks ago.
My doctor's office does not do this. She did give me a take home kit to do the finger prick (blood work portion) of the test at home. I had to do that at least 2 weeks prior to the Sono portion. I had to send my sample to a lab who then sent the results to the place I was having my sono. And I was able to get the results the day of my sono. I know some ladies have to wait about 2 weeks.
I just called my insurance company to if the whole test was covered or if I would have a co-pay.

Re: scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
When I went for the ultrascreen at NSUH I was supposed to pay a specialist co-pay for the doctor visit and then whatever my insurance did not cover from NTD labs (NTD labs do not participate with my insurance).

Re: scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
Hey Jen!
There is one physical visit but two procedures from this test. The physical visit requires you to be in the office for a sonogram where they take measurements. The second part happens behind the scenes - further analysis (bloodwork and such) which gets reported to your doctor.
I only had to pay my co-pay when I was pregnant with my son for the visit...and had to be sure to tell them to use an approved lab (Quest is not approved by my insurance). Other than that there was no additional cost. But every insurance plan is different. You might want to call the health insurance provider directly to ask.

Re: scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
I just had my Ultrascreen yesterday at my doctors office and now I have to wait 2 weeks for the results. I didn't have a co-pay.

Re: scheduling Nuchal Trans. test
thanks everyone!
I called back and luckily talked to someone else so I didnt seem like a crazy woman
They basically said what you all said so I can rest assured and now just worry about the test results
