Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
Since DH and I are products of Wantagh schools and we live in district and plan on sending our kids through them, I vote Wantagh.
I think they are both good. For whatever it's worth, all 5 of Wantagh's schools are "Blue Ribbon of Excellence" schools. But I really have no idea what that means.
Wantagh SD is #23. Our taxes are higher than Massapequa's because we don't really have any businesses to help offset them.
I have a good friend who went to Massapequa schools and now her older child goes to the public schools and she's happy with his education.

Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
based on what i have seen (professionally) both are very good schools. the only reason i would choose wantagh over massapequa is because of massapequa's close proximity to amityville.
ET clarify: i am not in a teaching profession but i do work with juveniles/adolescents.

Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
Both schools districts are great!! Wantagh is a smaller district having only 2 or 3 elementary schools, 1 middle and 1 high school. Massapequa has 5 or 6 elementary, 1 middle which is 7 & 8 grade, a school for just 9th grade and then high school for 10-12 grades. I know that East Lake elementary in Massaepqua is a Blue ribbon school, and i know that McKenna and Birchlane (the harbor area) are also very good, but really all of the elementary schools are good!

Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
Both districts are very good. I live in Seaford (right between both of them) and all the schools are probably on the same level.
In Wantagh (I think North of Jerusalem Road) you are zoned for Levittown schools. Wantagh is a smaller district compared to Massapequa.
In Massapequa, if you are well east or north, you could be in Amityville or Farmingdale school districts. And part of N. Massapequa falls into Plainedge school district, which is also very good.
Found this website, hope it helps!

I agree with the previous posters, you really can't go wrong with either. Both are really nice towns.

Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
We are in the Wantagh SD and so far I am extremely happy. DS is going into 1st grade so my actual experience is limited but so far so good. The Principal at his school won NYS Educator of the year last year. All the schools have earned blue ribbon status. We are close friends with neighbors who have kids in just about every grade (8 kids aged 10 mo - 17) so we get a larger view through their family. Parents are involved, there is an active PTA in each of the elementry schools ( we know prople from all over the district through sports),there is a nice well rounded school spirit. I am very happy we are in this district.

Massapequa is a huge district - I prefer a smaller student population.

ditto, I would go with Wantagh based strictly on the size. I grew up in and went through the Seaford SD, smack right between Wantagh and Massapequa and I now live in Massapequa.
I hope to one day move back to wantagh or seaford and send my kids there. I really enjoyed the smaller class feel, knowing everyone etc.

Re: School District Qs re: Massapequa and Wantagh areas
Wantagh SD comes at a cost. I have found Wantagh homes on average sell higher than Massapequa homes.
I am looking in both areas, and am fine with both districts.

Both districts are very good. As some PP said, just make sure you are zoned for the district. Some Wantagh homes are Levittown school district and some Massapequa homes are Amityville schools.

i dont think she is saying there is, just saying make sure you know which SD the house is in (since the OP is specifically asking about Wantagh and Massapequa).
Some Seaford homes lie in wantagh and levittown, some massapequa in amityville, some wantagh in seaford and levittown, the PO was strictly looking for the two towns listed above

I have to say that even with the class size inching up to 22- 24 students I still feal like there is a small school attitude. I was schocked to learn that the principal knows my son by name. My first reaction was oh no you're in K and the principal already knows you! DS explained to me that he knows him from his reading group. I found out that the pricipal takes a special interest in the incoming K classes and tries to send time in their classrooms.
