Re: school district question
Plainview. Im sure Manhasset schools are amazing, but at a cost (i dont mean monatarily). I don't know- i'd just want something more middle class cause i'm not buying my kid a Benz, but also don't want them tortured at school b/c they don't have one. I dont think POB is as bad in that sense.

I second this... keeping up with the jones' can be very difficult if you aren't at that "level". if you are... then go for it!!
i would prefer more middle class to... some lssons just aren't learned IN school...

ITA. Having lived in both places (we bought in Plainview last year), I would definitely choose Plainview. There seems to be a certain "standard" you have to try to live up to in Manhasset. Personally, its not for me, I'm much happier here (except for the commute- that was MUCH better from Manhasset). I think this is a great town that has pretty much everything- centrally located, great schools, convenient to parkways and shopping, etc.

Re: school district question
I would choose Manhasset. That's where we will be looking too, once we can sell our place either Pt Washignton or Manhasset. Have you considered Pt Washington? It is still a top SD and it's more of a mixed community.....with a lot of younger families moving into the town.
Manhasset has a top school in LI and a great commute into the city.

Re: school district question
i would choose manhasset as well. i worked in the public schools there and the children were AMAZING. only a handful were stuck up. (the great neck projects by macys also go there, and those children are far less fortunate and were never looked down upon by their more affluent classmates)
i also like the style of house/neighborhood in manhasset better, more traditional houses.
on the other hand, my cousin grew up in old bethpage/plainview in a very nice house with very nice cars and was miserable in the schools there with his peers. to this day (almost 30) he still talks about how he hates plainview, etc...
just one persons opinion

Re: school district question
I would choose Manhasset, but I also live here.
I do not find that anyone looks down on anyone. If anything, even the very weathly people here tend to be very modest. The only people that I see struggling are people that are self conscious about the fact that there are some really wealthy people in the town. To me though, that's your own issue. If you are insecure about what you have then this probably isn't the place for you.
But, the kids here are so down to earth and well mannered. On Halloween I will tell them they can take as much candy as they want and they all take 2 pieces max and say "Thank you SO MUCH!!!".
Plus the school district is excellent.
