School on Memorial Day
My neice in North Carolina actually had a regular school day on Memorial Day. They used an extra snow day and had to make up the day.
My parents were both teachers for more than 25 years each and have never heard of that before.
Have you?
Somehow I thought that working on a federal holiday would be a violation of the contract that teachers sign.

Wow - I've never heard of that!  I thought all schools/government offices were closed on federal holidays....

That's ludicrous- I've heard of adding days to the end of the year but not a national/federal holiday !

I have no idea if the two are related - but remember that NC does not have teacher's unions so things that would never fly here in NY, can easily happen in NC.

also. perhaps this is something the union, or staff or community decided so that they wouldn't have to tack a day on at the end of the year.
