Seasonal allergies in a toddler
Does anyone's toddler suffer from seasonal allergies? I suspected DD had them last spring when she seemed to keep getting brief "colds". Now this season I'm convinced since she can go from runny/stuffy nose, sneezing in the morning and be fine later that afternoon. Not to mention I myself am a veteran of seasonal allergies. Last year when I brought it up to the ped he told me it's possible but she couldn't really get tested for it until she's 3 (she'll be 3 in August). The only thing that really bothers me is she coughs at night from post nasal drip. I know cold medication is a no-no at her age but just wondering if any toddlers take allergy medication and does it help?

My son takes Claritin. It helps a lot. He is 28 months. He has been taking 1 tsp. daily since 22 months.

My DD was diagnosed with both food and environmental (seasonal falls under this) allergies at 9 months of age. Personally, I would just go to an allergist rather than let the PED attempt to diagnose it.
The allergist did the skin test to make his Dx. She was prescribed Nasonex and we have only dealt with colds since then, whereas before it seemed like she was ALWAYS runny (she also had a red nose all the time).

Re: Seasonal allergies in a toddler
I've been wondering if DS has allergies also, since he always seems to have a runny nose and it goes away for brief chunks of time, then comes back. No other cold symptoms. He is also getting his eyeteeth at the moment, so that could be it too though.
He doesn't seem so miserable and there is no cough or wheezing, so I'm waiting till our 18 month appt. unless something else surfaces, and then I want to talk to his doctor about allergy testing.
