Secondary Infertility

We have been actively trying for 12 months to concieve #2....at a recent visit to my OB to find out what the next step is I was told that I may have a short luteal phase or not be ovulating...my cycles are 20-40 days long.

I have not charted but plan to start now. I figured since we concieved our son so quickly the 1st time that we wouldn't have any problems the 2nd time around.

What is everyone's experience when they hit the 12 month mark? I had the bloodwork done and that all came back normal. My next appointment is for a sonogram and consultation with my regular OB. From there I assume I could go to an RE?

Re: Secondary Infertility

I would skip the ob/gyn visit all together and go straight to a Re. Unless you need it for a referral. I would get specific hormone testing done on day 3 of your cycle. Prolactin, fsh, lh, tsh, estradoil. I would also get glucose checked. Start charting ...if you post on here, I can take a look and tell you anything I notice.

Re: Secondary Infertility

It's more common a problem than one would think. DH and I know of at least five couples who had issues conceiving their second child and I know a few women from work. Apparently their first wasn't an issue.

It's funny because in my mother's case (and apparently mine) she had a difficult time conceiving her first (me, I've been difficult sinceChat Icon ) but then her system was "jumpstarted" and my brother came along like clockwork (but he's been late ever since).

Re: Secondary Infertility

My sis got PG with her son on the first try, but has been trying over a year for their 2nd. She found out she needed a laporoscopy, so that was the problem. They're TTC again now...

I was just thinking about that yesterday. A friend of mine tried for several years to get pregnant - and then when she finally decided to go to a fertility specialist, they made her take a pg test and surprise surprise. And then the second one just followed suit by surprise.
