Security at your childs school.
So this horrendous tragedy in CT today got me thinking about my childs school and its security.
Background, school is out east, rural, great neighborhood, "safe" ( all relative after today) etc etc....Once school is in session the only way in is through the front door and there is a greeter there who makes you sign in and you have to wear a sticker to show you have been signed in etc.
After today I dont think this is enough. There is nothing stopping a gunman from walking through those front doors and shooting anyone in his path. He /she would be in the school then and could do a lot of damage.
Also does your school have drills for this type of emergency situation and if so how often?
I am so upset over what happened today and I feel powerless

The high school I attended had security, but IMO they were to keep the kids IN, not people OUT. They were mostly retired men who rode around on go-karts making sure kids didn't cut class. IMO one armed guard would be more beneficial than that.

Re: Security at your childs school.
My kids do have a lockdown drill in their school and have had to use it last year (there was a police chase or something). I don't think it's enough. People just randomly get buzzed in, and they could just shoot their way through the school. Its scary.

Sorry...didn't realize there was a thread about this up and running already.
