security blanket question..5 month old...

I have posted before about my 5 month old who was a great sleeper and started to wake at night around 4 months (like a lot of other babies on here). I use to be able to give him a pacifier and he would fall right back to sleep. Now all he does is pull it out of his mouth the second I give it to him. I noticed that for naps he will fall RIGHT to sleep if I give him a lovey (small receiving blanket that has a bear head attached.). For naps I'm up and I can watch him. The past two nights the only way I can get him to go back to sleep in two seconds is if I give him the blanket. I know that it is not safe so what can I use? He seems to like the security of holding something. I went in and took it away after he was sleeping for a bit last night but he woke up an hour later. I gave him the blanket again and then he slept until 9 this morning. WWYD? TIA!

Its a personal decision.

As a SIDS mom it wasn't a risk I was willing to take with my girls. We all have our own comfort levels. Do what feel right for you and your child.

agree.. me personally Im scared to give my dds anything blanket like. Even at 20m my dd only has her two stuffed elmos with her.

If you do decide not to give at night, then you should stop giving at naps.. this way hes not looking for it at night.

Re: security blanket question..5 month old...

We got into the bad habit of letting Sydnie nap with a blanket. Mainly because she was a winter baby and we don't blast the heat during the day and if she fell asleep in the swing we threw it on her.

Anyway..she falls asleep with a pretty large teddy we call Miss Snuggie and a handmade knit blanket, you know the ones that are holey. Once she falls asleep we remove the blanket from the crib and leave Miss Snuggie. It's been working well for us.
