Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
Hi All,
I am at the beginnig of my IVF process and I have to sign the consent form about how many eggs I desire to put back.
Here is where I need your advice or experience of what happened to you.
I truly want to avoide multiple births at all costs. My doctor suggests though to put back two eggs, not one saying there is a 35% chance of pregnancy with one and a 50% with two eggs.
How many of you put back just one and got pregnant?
How many put back two and got pregnant with just one?
How many put back two and had twins?
I need advice!
Thanks so much!
Keri

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
I've been on this board for a while and the results totally depend on age and egg quality.
If you are under 37 your chances of the egg implanting are much better than if you are over. If you are over 40 the chances decrease significantly from under 40.
Most women on here have put back 2/3 embryos at a time and there are relatively few multiples. If you have three or more embies, try one the first time and then if that doesn't work you have two more.

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
I am with Gerty on this one. I put back 2 the first time and 3 the second. None of them took. I was 41 at the time. I just turned 42 July 12th and I did an insemination last Thursday and Friday, I just could not afford another IVF. I wish you the best of luck. God will never give us more than we can handle. Try to really believe that.

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
Due to my age (I'm 33), my RE would only transfer 2 embryos. I've gone through ivf twice. I got pg each time with only one baby.

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
I'm 28 and I transferred 2 5day blasts. I am now pregnant with one baby girl. It all depends on your egg quality and age. Personally, IVF is so expensive and it takes a toll on your body...I'd rather put back 3 and get 1 or 2 then put back 1 and get nothing.
FYI: My co-worker is 36 and put back 3. She is now pregnant with one boy. Good Luck!!!

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
My first IVF, I put back 3 embryos and got pregnant with one.
My second IVF, I put back 4 and am pregnant with twins!
I am glad that it is multiples because if this IVF didn't take, that would have been it for us. But, I love being pregnant with twins! I love to see people's expressions when you tell them! It has been such a treat and a blessing all at the same time!

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
2nd IVF I put back 4 embryos, I am now pg with a singleton, I am 39. The Dr suggested how many we put back, which he based on my age. Good luck

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
I am 28 and put 2 5 day blast back and I am now pregnant with one. We knew that we wouldn't put back less than 2 because we figured we were going through all this and our chances would be higher if we put back two.
We are pleased to be pregnant with one, but would have gladly taken both.
This is a very tough and personal decision. Only you and your DH will know what is right for you.
Good luck

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
Depending on your age, if you're very concerned about having twins, and only want to put back one, I would spend the extra money and do PGD. This way you know the one embryo you put back is healthy and normal and you have a great chance of implantation.
Good luck to you.

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
I was 31 at time of the Transfer, I put back 2 , and 8 cell and a 6 cell and I got PG with one baby.
I had 3 embryos left and they were all 6 and 4 cell, we would have put all 3 back if I had not gotten PG the first time.
Good luck!!

i posted on multiples, but i wanted to say that this was NOT true for me.
we did pgd on all of our embryos for a genetics reason. we put the 2 best quality embryos in the first time around and neither stuck. many factors can affect things.
i don't think pgd is a guarantee.

This is true...the Dr. I see now is very into PGD and we just cannot afford it. I spoke to Dr. Flisser @ RMA and he said that PGD can rule out problems but cannot guarantee a good embryo. IF they take one cell of a 6 cell embryo and it's good - it doesn't mean the other 5 are also good. If that cell is bad, then the others are most likely bad.
PGD is much more useful for those who are unable to get pregnant after multiple IVF cycles, have inherited diseases or blood disorders.

I have to say, I agree with you both. PGD is definitely not a guarantee. But, if you're afraid of multiples, I think its better than nothing. Putting in one that hasn't been genetically tested, I personally think to be a mistake. I would definitely recommend putting in two or three, of course depending age, but if that is just not a feasible optoin...again, better than flying blind.

Re: Seeking Advice On How Many Eggs To Put Back
The docs wanted to put back 3 but i told them 2 so they put 2 back and i had beautiful twin girls..if i have another i will make sure they only put 1 back. the 1st time around if you are the one with the issues i would put 2 it doubles your chances and you get it over with in one shot. BUT this is a personal decision.
