Seeking an agency for speech
My son will be 2 on Friday and I had someone from Nassau County come for an initial visit. She left me with a list of about 50 agencies that provide speech therapy, but was not allowed to recommend any. My son seems fine in every area of development except for speech (does really use words to express his thoughts). He can take simple direction etc. Anyone know of a good agency I can tell the woman at the Nassau County agency I am interested in working with? I know much of places have people that travel to your home but I live in Rockville Centre.

Re: Seeking an agency for speech
Marion Salomon did my dd's CPSE speech evals, and they were so thorough. They have a huge database of therapists. I now use them for CPSE and couldn't be happier (My therapists requested I switch to them for CPSE lol)
Dealt with Long Island Center for Child Development for EI and they were 'awful'. In fact, they didn't even evaluate her, they just chatted with me. My dd played in another room during the speech eval. Even my dd's therapists have complained about their lack of organization. They wasted so much of our time. And never informed me about all the different classes my dd could have participated in through EI.
Toddler and Infant Interventionists is in Rockville Centre my therapists like working for them.. Sometimes the location of the agency attracts therapists from the local area who only work around their home, especially for speech, since it's only a 45 minute session. Also I believe they have mommy and me classes there that are covered through EI.
Keep in mind that whomever you choose to evaluate your child, does not have to be the same agency that finds the therapists. If at anytime you are unhappy with a therapist, you can always ask for a replacement and it can be from another agency. You can also be apart of a mommy and me class that is not from the agency your therapist comes from.

Thats who we use.... They were very thorough with DS... We had a 2 hour meeting... They got down on the floor with him and evaluated him... They picked up things that I didn't see.. They made sure he was going to get what he needed...
We have a great woman who sees DS 2 times a week.. She works in the area...

All evaluators do this.. and if they don't i would request a new evaluation. any person who evaluates your DC will NOT be the person to do services, so keep that in mind.
they are trained to pick up many things that we as parents do not see... Also if you see something that you are not sure if they caught, tell them.
when AJ was evaluated, he was 15 months old at the time, and i told them everything i saw as a parent from the time he was 6 months old... they saw everything i saw plus some thing i never noticed...
with Carmela my NT child, i noticed things that the evaluators didnt catch but only because i was so closely watching everything she did... she was evaluated at 12 months, 15 months, 18 months and 22 months. (for speech)
the agency could be located in Massapequa, but their therapists are from all over nassau county. so just because an agency is near you does not mean you need to use them.
