Self Tanners (at home or tanning salon)
Did you use Self Tanners during your pregnancy? What about during your 1st Trimester?
DH and I have an event to go to and I will be 8 weeks.
Do you think it's okay to get a self tanner done at my tanning salon? It's one of those California Spray Tan machines you stand in - link is below. California Spray Tan System
I have done it before and never had a reaction, but it does smell like chemical... I am torn.
I don't wanna have roots down to my ears (because I can't highlight my hair) AND be pale as a ghost! Help!

That is what I was afraid of. My Mom who is a nurse always tells me that all of those chemicals can't be "good" for you.
I guess I am destined to be an Ugly Betty for the next 9 months!

You would also be inhaling it so that would be another reason to nix it. Sometimes with pregnancy, your skin gets weird so you might get a reaction from it anyway, even if you haven't before.
The OB might say to skip it. Maybe you can use some bronzing powder?

I was told that it was OKAY so I did. I had a wedding to go to and didn't want to be so pale, so I got mystic tan. My OB said that there was nothing wrong with it. I also used Jergens.

Re: Self Tanners (at home or tanning salon)
dust some bare minerals on your skin....
frankly, I'm as pale as a sheet of paper, but I never used a self tanner... I think a pale complexsion can look really nice
I think the much larger sacrifice is not being able to have a cocktail at the party
oh, how I miss my mixed drinks (I sound like such a boozer )

You can get highlights after the first trimester. My dr. said it was fine. And she said no on the spray on tan to me too.

Re: Self Tanners (at home or tanning salon)
Done it, while pg....spray tanning in the salon. You are suppose to hold your breath or not breath in while is sprays and its a quick 30 secs for each side.
It lasted a wk and made me happy for what I needed it for, like my shower
ETA: every doc is different and I asked mine, they were ok with it. and Yes, get your hair done.....esp after the 1st trimester. You will be fine.

I have a black tie event to go to in two weeks and wanted to get the mystic tan done. I used to go for them all the time before being preggo. I don't know what to do now??? I guess I'll have to call my doctors office and ask them? I don't want to be a ghost either. Plus my dress is really low cut and my boobs are all veiny now. I was hoping the tan would conceal that a little bit.

I had no problems doing it. They say not to breathe the stuff in (which DUH, you aren't going to do anyway lol).. it looked all nice and even and it made me feel good because I looked pretty!

Re: Self Tanners (at home or tanning salon)
I personally wouldn't take the chance. It's a chemical regardless of whether or not u are breathing it in... it still soaks into your skin.
I would just sprinkle myself with some bronzing powder.
JMO - u have to do what's right for u.
