Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
or bad eaters? My son is a bad eater in that he doesn't like to try new foods, eats the same things over and over. I'm trying to come up with some good lunch ideas because the ONLY sandwiches he will eat are plain cheese or Nutella (yum). Not even sure I'm allowed to send Nutella (which I'd only do like once a week anyway). The only meat he will eat is rotisserie chicken or chicken cutlets (breaded) sometimes. Anyway, just looking for ideas fro BTDT moms. I was just looking at ideas on Pinterest

Rollups if he won't eat a sandwich like my DD she will eat roll ups. She can't eat cheese but said her friends brought meat and cheese rolled. Then she had melon balls, pineaplle sticks or carrot and cucumber sticks.
Crackers with cheese and veggies stackers.
My DD like chicken drunsticks will he eat that?

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
Honestly, I came to the realization that it's not necessary to drive myself crazy trying to come up with a variety of lunch ideas. I work on her food variety for breakfast and dinner at home!
My DD gets a cheese sandwich whenever she brings lunch to school which is usually 2-3 times/week (she will buy lunch when they have chicken nuggets, hamburger, or grilled cheese). Along with the cheese sandwich she gets baby carrots and fruit (grapes, apple, strawberries, watermelon, etc). ETA: Along with the cheese sandwich (which she typically decomposes as she eats!), I send in turkey or turkey bologna rolled up on the side.

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
My one son will only bring macaroni meals (chef Boyardee) in his thermos. Luckily he likes the school lunches most days because I find what he loves gross - lol. He'll occasionally bring a turkey sandwich.
My other son won't eat a sandwich either. The closest he gets is shredded cheese (only one kind of cheese on a wrap). Luckily 3 of 5 days he likes the school lunches. He gets bored easily so I have to mix it up. I usually give him a few things like carrot sticks, grapes, cucumber slices, shredded cheese, granola bar, red pepper strips, sliced almonds with a butter roll or some crackers. Sometimes he asks for butter bread. I figure that with some veggies and he's set.

Thanks everyone. Pasta is a good idea. I'm going to get a thermos, that can be a great option.

My DS doesn't eat sandwiches other then peanut butter and jelly or Nutela. But e does like the components of sandwiches. He often gets either turkey or turkey pepperoni with a cheese stick and either crackers or a rice cake. He also gets a chocolate milk, fruit and a small dessert with every lunch.

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
I have one really picky kid and he almost always gets mini bagel with cream cheese. (except on chicken nugget and brunch for lunch days! LOL)
I want him to eat so he has energy to learn, so I pack what I know he will eat.

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
Wow, your picky kids are worldly eaters compared to my DD!!!
Every day, all she wants is a jelly sandwich. I try to make it a bit better by putting it on whole grain bread. I also give her either a few slices of cheese cut into cute shapes, or a string cheese. I throw in fruit or cukes, but not sure if she eats them or not...I'm pretty sure the fruit she does. Carrots or peppers will never get eaten. I'm glad if she eats the cheese, drinks the milk and has some fruit.

I use a bento box. It has different containers that you can fill. I do fruit, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers and usually a cookie or something. I've also done rollups, pasta, salad etc. The great thing is that it's each is separate so I feel like I'm not tied to giving her one thing.

Thanks- yes I bought these 3 compartment lunch trays on Amazon and really like them. The other day I gave him cheese, crackers, grapes and a cereal bar. It was a hit. He's also been liking mac & cheese in his thermos.

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
My son loves having cereal for lunch - so I make him something else for breakfast and put cereal in a Tupperware. Bowl and he buys milk in school and makes his cereal- good luck!

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
My daughter loves rotissare chicken so I cut up some chicken breast and pair with cheese and crackers. We also do cream cheese and jelly sandwiches on bread in shapes or mini bagel.

Re: Sending lunch for non sandwich eating kids
My ds loves when I give him macaroni and cheese or ravioli. Sometimes I will do an English muffin pizza, or cinnamon waffles. Or if I made chicken noodle soup the night before I might send that in a thermos.
