sending thank you cards......
do you send thank you cards to people even if they didn't give a gift?
what do you say, when you personalize it? thanks for coming...your presence was present enough?
If I sound bitter, I am.

This would be me too. Or I would write, "thanks for coming to my party and for your thoughtful gift" and then cross out the thoughtful gift part

Re: sending thank you cards......
Depends---I know some people who wouldn't have the means to really give a gift so their presence is enough of a present. If they could have given a gift though, that's crummy.

Re: sending thank you cards......
I would personally send a card that said: Thank you for coming to my party. If they had given a gift-I would add, We loved your XYZ and have been playing with it all weekend. Hope to see you soon. Since the person didn't give one you would leave that last part out.

I want to be able to do this. I want to be a good enough person. but instead, I want to punch some face.

Re: sending thank you cards......
I had to do this for Tyler's Christening.
All I wrote was something to the effect of:
Thank you for celebrating my Christening Day with me. I truly appreciate it.
I can't believe you have a few people that did this though. Did anyone mention forgetting the gift or card? Could it have been misplaced?

Re: sending thank you cards......
I'd love to write, "Thank you for coming to xxxx. We're disappointed you couldn't spend the whole day with us, but we're glad you came, nonetheless. We hope you enjoyed the food."
However, I wouldn't have the balls to do that, so I just wouldn't send a thank you at all.

No. I send thank yous for gifts only. As far as them coming to a function I just say thanks for coming as we are saying good-bye. I don't send a thank you note though.

Re: sending thank you cards......
No I dont send thank you's if there was no gift. I'm really just sending them to thank them for the gift, not for coming. But I also don't care about gifts at all. Ok well maybe...Since my MILLIONAIRE lottery winner in laws gave them each a pillowcase....Yes a pillowcase and I'm having a hard time sending that thank you card out. The favors I gave out at parties were my thank you for coming acknowledgment..

Re: sending thank you cards......
Don't feel too bad...My own sister didn't give a gift for DS's birthday.
I'd send the thank you for sharing the day. If they didn't give a gift, they know they didn't. I would just be the bigger person, as hard as it is.

I don't send a thank you if you didn't give a gift.
If people can't give a gift due to whatever circumstance, that's fine with me. I just wouldn't feel the need to send a thank you card for their presence.

Re: sending thank you cards......
I guess I'm in the minority. I dont thank people for being present at a party...I thank them for an actual gift. if they didnt give a gift then there is nothing to THANK them for. They are not REQUIRED to give a gift and I am therefore not REQUIRED to thank them for not giving one
P.S. this does not apply to wakes, where the fact that someone came to pay their respects IS the actual gift.
