Serious Knee Pain..
Can anyone help.
The past week I've been having a sharp pain from my right butt cheek down to my knee. I was able to walk without any issues but I wasn't able to completely straighten my leg when I did any type of stretching. It felt tight.
Well today I was kneeling down and I don't know what I did but it felt like the knee locked up and I was barely able to get up off the floor.
When I did I was having trouble walking with a flat foot. I have to walk on my toes to stop the shooting pain. It's still there but not as bad.
I went to the dr and she gave me an anti inflamatory and sent me to get an xray. Won't have the results till thursday. She said to ice it and keep it elevated.
I'm leaving for vacation on Sunday and I'm worried.
Anyone have something like this and did the ice and meds help? Anything else you might recommend I can do to help ease the pain. I'm already taking Aleve. So far not much help
Thanks!

Serious Knee Pain..
what dosage are you taking? OTC is only 220mg. prescription variants are 375 and 500mgs. maybe you need a stronger dose?

Is this for a pain killer?
Because the anti inflammatory I'm on is only 75mg. It's used to relieve pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis. Which is what she will be looking for on the X-ray

Re: Serious Knee Pain..
For me, pain from my butt cheek going down to my knee turned out to be from a back injury. I did at first think that it was a hip injury so I think that the pain can be misleading. Then again with your knee locking up you might have to get it all checked out.

I think this may be another problem.
I heard back from the dr. The x-ray shows narrowing of the knee joint. Basically the cartilage is deteriorating. Since I'm going away in a few days, she said to see an orthopedic when I get back. In the meantime continue the meds, keep it elevated and iced. It is feeling better. I can at least walk on it. I just need to take it easy for a few days. I want to feel good when I visit my grandsons

Never heard of this. But I just looked it up. And it does sound like it. Thank You. I'm going to talk to the dr about this.

Re: Serious Knee Pain..
was also going to say IT Band. Get a foam roller ASAP and go to a specialty sneaker store. You might not be wearing the correct ones. foam roller

Re: Serious Knee Pain..
I also agree with the foam roller. There are exercises on youtube to show you. That really helps.
Something else to try are hip flexor stretches. My knees were really starting to bother me again a few months ago when I was taking a kickboxing classes and a sports conditioning class. The jumping was putting to much pressure on my knees. I was pinterest and saw something about stretching out your hip flexors. I looked into it and tried and a huge difference!
