seriously upset and need advice : pregnancy and peeing at work

Sounds stupid, but I am sitting here in tears. I have a career where if I need to go to the bathroom, I need someone to cover me. Which is annoying, but now at 7 months pregnant is awful. I am trying to reduce my water intake, but if I do, I get severe contractions to the point of having to go to hospital to be hooked up to an IV. You know the feeling of having to pee when you're NOT pregnant..... You know how much worse it is when you are. Its terrible. And I have to pee so often and its a feeling of "omg I have to go RIGhT now". I don't have a bladder or kidney infection. The worst part.... Sometimes no one is available to give me a bathroom break for awhile. What do people do in these situations? I am so upset. I am miserable.

There is nothing worse than the feeling of being tied down to your desk.

Any way possible you can speak to someone about it? I think at 7 months pregnant they should be understanding and willing to help find a solution.

If not, I would just say f it and go when I need to go. They can't make you pee your pants.

You can't be denied to go to the bathroom. That's just cruel and inhumane. I know it's easier said than done I would just go. You're going to damage your bladder.

I'm a classroom teacher so I totally get where you are coming from. I just ask the teacher across from me if she would mind watching my kids while I run quickly to the bathroom. Maybe there is someone close by that you can ask for a few quick minutes while you go... It is getting harder and harder though....

it is illegal for you to be put in a position that forces you to compromise your or your babies health. You are doing so by cutting your water intake and holding your urine in.

I would speak with them about setting up a temporary relief system ...after all its only another 3 months they have to deal with this.

Thanks. It just sucks because I feel I always have to go every half hour and I hate even asking colleagues to have to step in. Its becoming unbearable and the feeling of not being able to leave when I want, makes the urge even stronger. I don't know how anyone does it - working at nine months. I'd be living in the bathroom. I just know its going to get much worse, if its this bad now. I didn't have this issue as badly during the first pregnancy. I'm going to doctor tomorrow and will see what they say. :(

I would talk to your HR person, as well as your boss and explain the situation. You should not have to suffer..........in fact, that's illegal.

Good luck!

Re: seriously upset and need advice : pregnancy and peeing at work

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I am 7 months as well, and have been having to go to the bathroom constantly. Luckily, I teach periods, and can go every 40 minutes....but lately I have been having to go again before the 40 minutes is up....luckily I can get coverage....I have NO IDEA what I would do if I couldn't go. And for me, it doesn't even matter if I don't drink, I still have to go!

Can you get your dr to write a note saying you HAVE to have coverage every x minutes or something being that you medically need to drink the water?

Re: seriously upset and need advice : pregnancy and peeing at work

I am soooooo sorry you are going through this. It sucks to have to hold it! I am a teacher so I understand. I dunno if this will help you but it has helped me. As long as I am sitting I don't need to go as much. The second I get up I have to go so I try to sit through most of my classes. My bosses know why I am sitting and they don't mind.

But if this doesn't work for you, I think you need to speak up. It is not good for you or baby to have to hold it. Like a PP said it is inhumane to make you hold it!

I'm sorry.

sometimes a catheter would help the preggos. Chat Icon

all joking aside... i'm glad you are going to speak to your dr.... and then based on what they say, speak to your job and figure out a better working plan. you can't hold it and risking potential bladder problems or infection or pissing your pants isn't worth it.

I'm a teacher and in emergency cases I call up the office to have someone come down, but I also have a buddy system with a nearby teacher.

I agree with this. You need to speak to someone. Not only is this cruel and wrong but it is in fact illegal. At this point I'd probably leave when I had to go to the bathroom. You and your baby's health is more important than your job.

Don't feel bad about asking your colleagues for help. I teach and I have several schedules memorized so I know who I can ask to come into my room when I need to go. I'm sure you would do the same for your coworkers.

It's an awful position to be in. Chat Icon
