Re: Serving breakfast at a wedding

I'm not a fan of eating breakfast foods after 12 noon, never have been.
I also can't see sitting there in a cocktail dress and heels scarfing down bacon and eggs.
I don't know, it just doesn't seem to go.

The wedding is being held at a botincal garden. Seems lifelike it's just food. No dancing or music. Which we don't get because this family member is out going and loves music

Maybe things are different but I don't think serving breakfast is a good idea.

Honestly, who cares what you think, it's their wedding. I mean that in a nice way Chat Icon

I agree. I wish I did it.....I love pancakes anytime of the day!!!

We don;t have to like other people's weddings. If the choice of food is enough to make you not want to go I would think its not that close of a friend relative anyway.

Honestly I would love it.

Like others said wedding outside long island and the tri state area are much different. I learned this when I went to an upstate wedding.

IMO its not cheap, esp. If its what they liked. They warned guests and guess what the guests don't have to go.

Know what insane to me people thinking they need to spend loads and loads of money on a wedding. Not everyone is well off and even if they are not everyone feels the need to blow the money on a one day affair!

I wouldn't serve it at my wedding, but I wouldn't mind going to a wedding where it was served. OOS weddings have a lot more flexibility to bend to the desires of the couple...here in the tri-state area, a lot of weddings are the same shit, different day.

Agreed. It's definitely different. Not something I would necessarily do but I would enjoy it. I remember when planning our wedding we wanted something "different". But it was so difficult and expensive we ended up at a catering hall.

I think it's weird but, if done correctly, could be quite nice such as eggs benedict, mimosa, etc. However, if it's buffet pancakes, eggs and bacon, I wouldn't be impressed.

In the evening time I would think breakfast is a bit odd, but if it were in the morning, then fine. I'm actually attending an OOS wedding where it's a brunch on a Sunday morning.

Also not all Out of LI weddings are cheaper, my brother got married upstate and it cost him more to get married there vs. here, because at least here everything is included in one price. Over there he had to pay each item per person. So like, each passed item, the dinner the person chose, and it was either cash bar or run a tab

How do they work the booze?
Do you drink beer with you pancakes?
A nice Cab with your bacon and eggs?
Vodka soda and waffles?

I can't believe I forgot this, but mention of bagels jogged my memory. I went to an (outdoor) wedding a few years ago and they served bagels and, like, pasta salad. No alcohol. No meat. 2 hours of speeches. DH's cousin snuck in a bottle of vodka.

To make matters worse, it was a whole motherflucking weekend.

The rehearsal dinner was pizza. And they ran out of it.

This was in the ti-state area and the bride's family was extremely wealthy- the wedding was at a family member's "summer estate."

That sounds like a disaster. Nothing worse than being hungry or leaving hungry after a function. And bored to tears with speeches with zero alcohol to pass the time. Fk that!!

Yup, a lot of non-LI wedding are just as or more expensive than LI weddings even though they usually don't provide nearly as much food or alchohol.

The worst food I have had has been at OOS weddings, hands down (three off the top of my head). And one of those places was at a reputable vacation destination. Based on my experience, I'd be ok with breakfast.

I think its a fun idea!
Pancakes, waffles, omelettes, french toast, sausage, bacon etc .. you can get quite full on all that.
I'm sure they'd have some fun with it and not have it be like a powdered eggs buffet (i'd hope).

bourbon and bacon go together fabulously too Chat Icon

At least they are forewarning the guests!

My cousin forewarned us that they were having a backyard BBQ theme for their wedding and all they served was hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on a steel drum. T

his was LI, but many years ago and we all ended up grabbing McD's on the way home because McD's was far superior to the food we got at the wedding. It was awful.

Ha. There is a special cocktail served with breakfast.

It's not like it's brunch. This is breakfast for dinner. Winner winner at my house but not at a wedding. I can't drink and eat eggs Chat Icon

I mean, I served breakfast at my wedding but it was in addition to my Viennese hour after a full cocktail hour and dinner meal lol. Seems odd to serve just breakfast at an evening wedding. I do love breakfast food so I wouldn't be too bothered by it.

Serving breakfast at a wedding

We had a breakfast/brunch menu, but we got married at 10 am and the reception started at noon. We had the usual eggs, bacon, etc., but also had turkey, shrimp, salads, etc. We had mimosas served to all of our guests, but the bar was open for anyone who wanted something else. We did it that way because breakfast is DH's favorite meal.

Having a breakfast reception in the evening seems odd, although I regularly have breakfast foods for dinner.
