serving "real food" instead of jarred to infants
All of this talk about food & children got me thinking... DD is 6 months old & has been on cereal & jarred fruits & veggies for a few weeks (no meats yet). She eats like a champ & usually likes new foods. I am a working mom & barely have enough time to make dinner for DH & me, so I certainly don't have time to make homemade baby food but...
can anyone suggest any easy "real food" that I can mash up/mix for DD to try? I'm totally clueless about this stuff. I'm not sure what's ok to feed her, but I know some moms on here do this.
Thanks!

Me! Me! Me!
Sweet Potatoes, Avocadoes, Boiled Chicken, Boiled Carrots, Squash, Potatoes, Peas, Celeriac, Turnips...
Any kind of fruit or veggie that comes in a jar, you can do yourself!!!

I agree with Racheee. Start easy and most things you can buy in a jar, you can do yourself. Start with a soft, mashed banana. Same for sweet potato. And veggies too can be steamed real soft and eaten that way.
I admit I use jar food, but since she is almost 9 months and eating more and more, I give her table food and its so much easier!

we have Annabel Karmel's Top 100 Baby Purees and The Baby's Table books. I'm a SAHM and don't cook for DD during the week . DH is the cook in the family - he spends part of the weekend making new things, freezing them in ice cube trays, and DD and i are set for the week!
i just noticed you could snag some of Annabel's recipies online! here is one of DD's favorites
Hooray for Annabel! She is the kiddy food guru!!! We love her! I always love when I see her on TV...its a rare occurance..but its always awesome! Image Attachment(s):

I guess the one I got was not ripe enough either b/c I smooshed it and smooshed it and when I gave one little piece to Ellie she started the whole gagging thing.

Re: serving "real food" instead of jarred to infants
I make big batches of her food every few weeks. In an hour, I can make a months worth, so its ready and waiting for me during the week.
Ella has had (mostly puree-ed or mashed): green beans peas broccoli cauliflower avocado carrots sweet potatoes mashed potatoes (just as we'd eat them) zucchini mango apples peaches pears bananas tomatoes
and not "homemade" yo baby yogurt american cheese pastina w/chicken broth
she also samples a lot of what we're eating, which is how we learned she loves broccoli, tomatoes and cheese. It seems to taste better if it comes from our plate
