shannon is 3months..is ok for cereal????
Hello mommies,
My little one is 3 months old today and the doctor told us we can start her a little cereal at 3 months.. the last couple of days she has been very figgity and eating ALOT!! so i figure we will try the cereal..
Did anyone else start this at 3 months???

Some Dr.'s start @ 3 months some @ 4 and some @ 6...
Its really up to you, and TRUST me... if your baby isnt ready-she'll let you know...
My dr. wanted to do it @ 4 months... I decided to try @ 3.... and Ryan was NOT ready at all.... (he just got up alot more at night... his belly must've been bothering him) so I stopped and tried again @ 4.... (at this point he was already sleeping through the night...w/o having cereal) and he was fine....
If you want try it.... if shes not ready- she'll let you know....

ok cool.. she has been sleeping through the night for the last 2 months . but the last 2 days she has not.. so we will try and see what happens.. thanks..

my son was drinking formula like it was going out of style he couldnt get enough. I felt like he was too hungry poor baby! So i started him on cereal at night after his bath and he LOVES it!!!! I used oatmeal because the rice would bind him up! He sleeps so much better now! I told my doc I was doing this and she said it was not a problem. Tommy is 3 months also!

I think most doctors recommend cereal at 4 months. I started my son at 5 months.

IMO 3 months is too early!
I agree. 4 months is usually the earliest but waiting 6 months is often better. We tried around 4 months because of reflux but she wasn't ready. Around 5 months it was better but at 6 months it was clear she was ready for solids.

Every dr is different, I started Gianna at 3 months but she was also a little under 15 lbs and drinking 32 oz of formula a day, it was 4 teaspoons to 2 oz of formula.. She never ate it all when we first started.. We started with rice for 3 days, oatmeal for three days then barley for three days, then we started stage one fruits with the cereal..

Ryan was 31/2 months and believe me he was starving! Formula wasn't cutting it and his little belly would growl. You could also hear the form hitting his stomach every bottle. Also right before cereal he was so gassy and he never was before. He also spit up a little and he never did that either. Once he got cereal - much better all around.

I did it at 3 months and even though it was messy my DD loved it. It also cut down on some of the formula she was drinking

Its not too early. Our parents had us on it at 2 weeks!!! We turned out fine. Started my daughter on a bit at 2.5 months.....

If your Dr said 3 mos is okay, then the only other thing to do is try and then listen to your baby. I agree with Marissa, if your baby is not ready, she will let you know.
Our Dr said to start at 4 mos. We did and he was not ready. We waited a couple of weeks and at about 4.5 mos he was ready.

it depends on the baby - my little guy was gaining weight faster than he was growing (according to percentiles) and the ped thought it would be OK to start at 3.5 months. When I said that isn't it usually 4 months - he said - OK wait 2 weeks - no big deal - so I think I started at 3m 3w

I started Ryan on cereal much earlier and it worked WONDERS for him. HE never had any problems with it as far as gas. If you think she is ready, try it. I did and never regretted my decision.

Personally I would not give a 3 month old any solids, unless it was medically needed. I believe in the new research that shows that early introduction of solids can cause allergies and other problems in babies.
I use www.kellymom.com for a lot of the research and Q&A.
Of course each mom should do what they feel is best. This is just my opinion and what I did for Molly.
