we have a smaller home with no separate "play" area. all of DD's toys are in our livingroom (which is a decent size). DD #2 is arriving in May. should they share a bedroom and leave the other bedroom a playroom (we have 3 bedrooms) or have separate rooms? i feel like if i make a separate playroom that they will just end up in the livingroom anyway. thoughts?

Re: share a room and have a playroom OR separate rooms and NO playroom

IDK, I'm not a fan of having toys in bedrooms so I vote for sharing a room and having a playroom. When we only had 1, all her toys and stuff was in the livingroom. It was a pain, but she didn't really have that much that didn't fit into the 1 toybox we had for her. When we were expecting #2 we were going to put her into the spare bedroom and still have their toys in the LR. We ended up building an extra room that we now use as a playroom.

I guess it depends on how much stuff you have/will have for them. Since we didn't really have alot I didn't mind it being in the LR so I would have let them have separate rooms if we didn't build the extra room. I think if they had alot that wasn't easily contained, I'd opt for sharing a room and having a place to stash the $hit!

If your LR can handle it, I would give them each their own room.

I think your living room is definitely big enough to keep the toys in there. I always worry about putting two young children together (IF it's an option for you) because if one isn't a good sleeper, and wakes up crying, the other one might wake. I think you're better off giving the girls their own rooms and leaving the toys in a section of the living room!

Re: share a room and have a playroom OR separate rooms and NO playroom

I gave up my formal dining room for a playroom and it is the best thing ever. All of DS toys stay in his room leaving our living room to the adults. I was very upset at first to lose my dining room, but after I saw how much DS loved having his own space I was sold it was for the best.

I think a separate room as a playroom is best.

I'll give you another perspective. My boys share a room since we have a 2 bedroom house and they do great together. My oldest is 3 and the younger one is 9 months. We don't have any sleep issues and they like being together. So, I think having them share a room and making the 3rd room a playroom is a great idea.

I agree. You have to plan for some serious storage.

I agree - if your living room is big enough give them their own rooms. We have a playroom and 95% of the time he brings his toys out into the living room. Chat Icon
