Sharing your DC 1st b-day with another family member

MIL's b-day is the day before DS'.
I was thinking it would be nice to acknowledge her bday at his party. Would you guys do this? Am I crazy? I am trying to keep things ok with us since we don't see eye to eye on many things.

And the last question is what would be a good way to acknowledge it? I know that I definitely don't want to sing happy birthday to her at his party but what else can I do?

I think that's sweet. Maybe after everyone sings Happy Birthday to your LO with their cake get one of those little cakes on the side that says "Happy Birthday Grandma" and sing to her afterwards.

DD's 1st birthday party will be on my FSIL's actual bday. I definitely plan on getting her a little cake and singing to her Chat Icon

Re: Sharing your DC 1st b-day with another family member

My mother's birthday is the day after DD's bday. I spoke to her about it and she didnt want to be acknowledged and DD's bday party. We took her out to dinner the night before the party. I would speak to other family members or your DH and see what they think. Maybe you can have dinner for her separately. The 1st bday is a big deal so hopefully she doesnt make a huge deal. Getting a second cake is always a good idea too...something she loves maybe.

Not at all. My family does combo parties all the time.

We celebrated my sisters and my DS together at my house this year.

I like the idea of a second cake.
Maybe a small one for just her & present it to her after DS smashes his cake?

DH's immediate family is large (he is 1 of 5 and there are 9 grandchildren) so we celebrate all birthdays in the same month at one time.

DS is 1 of 4 February birthdays. I am just doing a small family party for his first birthday, but there will be cakes for the 3 other birthdays.

I have a diificult MIL and she would be the type of person that would be mad if her birthday was not acknowledged Chat Icon I just don't get it? It is very nice of you to want to do something for her, but honestly, the party is not for her.

I think it is a very nice gestureChat Icon My Dad's Birthday was the day of Alexa's Christening so I had the Bakery make my Dad a cake too and we sang to him during the Party.

Re: Sharing your DC 1st b-day with another family member

I share my b-day with my 9 year old niece. They always get me a gift but no cake or anything. IMO she is a child and she should have all the attention. We usually do something seperate to celebrate for me.

I think you only need to get MIL a gift and acknowledge her but I don't think you need a seperate cake.

Ds was born on dh cousins bday ( should I had known this I would have had the cs a daynlater). He turned 18 on ds 1st bday. I had ds cake, we sang happy bday. I made a cake for the cousin, who instead of hanging with his friends and gf, he came to ds bday. We then sang to him. His mom called mil the next day and told her she LOVED that we shared the day AND acknowledged it. So I say go for it.
