SHAWNEE IS OUT OF SURGERY!
Hey ladies,
A while ago, I posted about my Mom's dog, Chewie, and how he needed some prayers. You guys came through then, and I'm hoping that you can work your magic again.
I've had my dog, Shawnee, since he was 8 weeks old. He just turned 10 years. Recently, I've noticed a bulge in his throat. At first, I was not concerned, I figured that as he had aged, his skin had lost some elasticity and it was no big deal. A few weeks ago, I felt a lump, so yesterday I took him to the vet. As soon as he felt it, he told me it concerned him. He said it could be anything (cancer, lymphnode, fatty deposit), and he asked if Shawnee had experienced any problems eating, drinking or swallowing - he has not. They took a few x-rays, took some blood and, for lack of a better word, needle biopsied (sp?) the lump (he said there is more than one - he took a sample from the largest). I won't know the results until tomorrow.
There have been two great loves in my life. My husband, and my dog. Before there was Kevin, there was Shawnee. I've had him since I was 21 - which is such a pivotal time in a person's life. We've been through quite a bit together and I'm just not ready to say good bye to him. Please keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer that we get some good news tomorrow.

So, they admitted my Shawnee today for surgery. We'll either get him back on Saturday or on Monday. They say it's cancer but they won't how bad until after the surgery. I just want him to get through the surgery.

Shawnee is out of surgery and is stable. They removed two tumors. He said that it was an involved surgery but it went smoothly and he will update me more tomorrow. Shawnee is resting - but "we're not out of the woods yet". I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me.

It may just be a fatty cyst... Gizzy has a bunch of them... they started appearing around 10 years old.

Thank you so much for your prayers, ladies!! Shwnee is definitely perking up!
I called the vet yesterday, and was told that he would call after five. I did not hear back at all. I'm hoping that this is a good sign - meaning that he feels that it isn't urgent.
I left another message this morning and was told that he would definitely call today after 12.
It's 12:23 and I haven't heard.
Keep your fingers crossed!
