Shed question.........
So after 3 stores and no one that wanted to help us, we found one with getting the help we needed in Lowe's! Okay, so the man in the store says we do not need a permit becuase it is not a permanent structure, it is a black and decker rubber one 8x6, I call the town of hempstead and they consider it an "accesory" and I need a permit. has any one heard of this? Did anyone put it up without a permit? Will my taxes go up?????? Why would I need a permit if it is not a permanant structure that we are putting together by ourselves??? HELP! I am so confused- and I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to get the permit!

Re: Shed question.........
I wouldnt of called. We recently put up a 8X12.5 shed in levittown and I didnt even bother calling to see if we needed a permit. My next door neighbor is a retired cop and he has had a shed for many years, and said he never got a permit either. I got my shed at Lowes too. It is built by Lifetime.

Re: Shed question.........
I called from work and blocked the # did not give my address and did not ask for the permit. I think we are just going to put it up and if we get questioned say we did not know. My yard is fenced in. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Shed question.........
If it is an issue it won'gt become one until you sell.
If you are in this current house for the long haul I wouldn't worry about it... just put up the shed.
My Dad knew he'd be in his house for years and never got CO's for a ton of things. Unfortunately, it will someday be my problem when I go to sell his house for him. Thanks Dad.

Re: Shed question.........
Oh well - guess we will either take it with us or have to deal with the town when we sell in 5 to 6 years

Re: Shed question.........
My DH built a large shed (12x16). He went up to the town to file for a permit and it turned out to be a nightmare (they required footings for our structure, 3 sets of original architectural drawings/prints, etc.) We called a construction company we deal with a lot to get a quote on the footings. The owner of the company laughed and told us not to waste our time with a permit or the footings.
Like Tah-wee-ZAH stated, it won't be an issue unless you try and sell (and in our case, we'd just level the darn thing.)

Re: Shed question.........
Yes, it's often easier to just level it if it becomes an issue, rather than pay for all of the fees involved.
When it comes to the town everyone has their hand out... it's such a scam
