"She's still waking up at night?"

This is what I hear all the time from people when I tell them my DD is still not sleeping through the night. What am I doing wrong???? She's a great eater, so pleasant when awake...but still is waking up 2x per night. I'm talking, wide awake. We've tried to give her the pacifier, rub her back, etc. We've also tried just leaving her be and letting her babble and look at her mobile, but eventually she'll start crying and since I'm in a 1BR apt...I can only listen for so long before I get up and either give her some bottle or rock her back to sleep.

I know there is no magic answer and that every baby is different. My DH and I are tired all the time Chat Icon We thought by now her sleeping would be getting better...but it seems to be getting a little worse.

I know a big part of the problem is that she doesn't nap at daycare. Most days she'll only give them 2 naps of about 90 mins total. On the weekends, she naps much better, but still wakes up during the night! UGGGGHHHH.

Thanks for listening!

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone -- my daughter didn't stop waking up at night until she was 21 months old. Yay for all the people who had more luck, but nothing worked for me but time!

Re: "She's still waking up at night?"

21 mos?!?!?! Chat Icon

She just turned 5mos last week. A part of me knows that the only thing that is going to work is time. But the part of my brain craving sleep keeps trying every trick I read about!

She's currently drinking approx 28 oz per day. 2 Tspns cereal at around 11a w/ a 1/2 container of fruit. Last bottle is at 7/730p and she's usually sleeping anytime between 730/8p.

Wakes up at around 1a, drinks about 4oz...then usually wakes up again at around 430a, but we just give her the paci and try to get her to go back down to sleep. That process can take a while Chat Icon

Give her some cereal with her last bottle- not in the bottle, with a spoon. We found that Luca started sleeping through the night when we did this.

I wouldn't worry about it! My kiddo is 15 months and he still wakes up in the night...sometimes he just wakes up! Sometimes he doesn't! At 5 months he was not sleeping through!

You are not doing anything wrong. Just ignore people who tell you that!!!

Re: "She's still waking up at night?"

I think it is more the norm for babies that age to not be sleeping totally through. Its hard becasue you hear of some babies that sleep 12 hours. I have a friend whose son slept for 12 hours at 12 weeks and NEVER wakes up. I used the same exact sleep approach and Jack never did that. I am lucky because Molly is pretty good. She now sleeps from 7-7 sometimes waking up but she usually gets herself back to sleep. She is 6 months. If you makes you feel any better, my 6 month old sleeps better than my 2 year old. Last night he woke up at 2am and took all his clothes and diapers off demanding a different shirt!Chat Icon It never ends!

You all make me feel so much better...thank you! I have several co-workers with babies younger than my DD and all I hear is how they sleep through the night...and then I get the 'poor you' look when they hear my baby is still waiking up. Oh well.

Re: "She's still waking up at night?"

I would try to discourage the 1am feeding and use the 4:30 to go back to sleep (bc they might really be hungry then) but truly every baby is different (and every week it seems!) yours might be hungry both times. Ryan gets up at 5 to eat, and sometimes goes back, sometimes not. He is 8 months

Justin is 2 and will only sleep straight through in our bed. He wakes up at 1:30am every night if he is in his toddler bed!! So annoying!

Re: "She's still waking up at night?"

I was told by a gf to feed them more throughout the day and especially the last feeding before bed, so that they sleep through the night. welp I have done that since she is 4 weeks old and DD sleeps from 1030 at night till 930 in the morning and doesnt wake up during the night at all. she will be 15 weeks tomorrow
Im waiting for her to start teething and see if that changesChat Icon

Try decreasing what you give her in the middle of the night until the feeding is eliminated. She might be getting up because she's used to eating at that time and her body is telling her she's hungry.

Some babies are good sleepers, and some arent. Some just know how to sleep, and others need to be taught. My son didnt sleep thru the night until 13 months old. He would wake up like 2-3x a night and be awake for hours.. nothing I did, rocking, rubbing etc. worked. I finally let him CIO at 13 months, and he's been sleeping thru ever since.

Consistency is key also, if you're going to start or stop something you have to be consistent or its useless. Good luck, I really do feel your pain.. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
