Shoes & Carpet Issue

Dh just called me to ask me if I wanted him to bring me extra socks...we're going to visit a friend for dinner. He just bought a house & has creme carpeting in his LR. I guess everyone takes off their shoes before entering. Now I'm wearing Gauchos & Boots...I'm going to look silly walking around w/ this clothes & white socks. I said, NO don't bring me anything. If there is an issue I will just sit in the kitchen. Am I being foolish? Should I ask if I should take off my shoes...or just walk right in? I'm annoyed...that's so tacky! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Shoes & Carpet Issue

Honestly... tacky or not... you should respect the wishes of another person's household.

But yeah... shoes off inside... tacky.

Re: Shoes & Carpet Issue

ughhhhhh.....but you have on the golden gauchos!!!!

I am submissive, I would take them off, but hate doing it. What would drive me crazy is that my boots need a good shine job, once I take them off they look dead and dingy. For some reason when they are on though, they look new.

Re: Shoes & Carpet Issue

Why not bring a pair of chinese slippers with you?
I hate having to take off my shoes at other people's houses, I honestly don't think anyone's rugs are more important than my own comfort, but I wouldn't start a problem over it so I'd bring something just in case.

I agree, but I don't know if that's a "golden" rule in their house. I will then have to bring a whole change of clothes. Should I just bring it as back up? Arrgghhh...how annoying!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

you guys are right. I guess, I will just ask if they prefer I take off my shoes. If they say yes, then I will have extra clothes in the car.

I would take my shoes off if I HAD TO. I absolutely HATE walking around without shoes or in socks. If I knew that was the house rule, I would have to bring my slippers with me.

I would only take my shoes off if they asked me to, I wouldn't voluntarily offer to take them off. At least you have some warning. I can't stand the feel of carpeting and was once asked to take my shoes off and I was soooooo uncomfortable. It's beyond me why someone would get carpeting and not let people walk on it.

Re: Shoes & Carpet Issue

I have the no shoes in the house rule- cream carpet as well! However I never ask people to take off there shoes and if they ask I say " you dont have too."

However we keep our shoes on a matt in the front hall when you walk in....so I hope people see we dont wear our shoes indoors and "take the hint"

I always offer to take off my shoes when I go to someone elses house...but thats just me...

Re: Shoes & Carpet Issue

If I were asked to take off my shoes, I might do it to be sensitive, but I find it rude to ask a guest in my house to do so. If it's that difficult to keep a carpet clean, then I wouldn't get a white or cream colored one. And I have to say, even if I see shoes by the door and know that the residents of the house take off their shoes, I wouldn't volunteer to take mine off. I don't automatically feel that sort of comfort level in someone's house unless I know them really well.
