Short Bridesmaid gowns
SIL is getting married in oct. at a winery. Im in the bridal party and we have yet to order dresses. she's thinking either brown or black, since her dress is a pale latte/cappuccino sash dress.
SHe has been leaning towards short cocktail length dresses and i think it will look kind of funny against her big, beautiful formal dress (has a sash, pickups, etc). Maybe b/c i think short dresses are more for spring/summer less formal weddings?
also, me and the 2 other girls are different heights so the hems will all be different. whereas a long gown is more uniform.
thoughts??
shes going for BM dresses next week and i wont be there. I've asked her to just keep an open mind and consider something longer.
Thanks!

Re: Short Bridesmaid gowns
I was going to have short dresses but ended up with long for no reason really other than I loved the dresses I picked.
I think short dresses would be perfect for a vineyard wedding. I don;t think they look strange next to a big wedding gown.

Re: Short Bridesmaid gowns
I got married this past sept and the girls wore short dresses. You can't tell from this pic but my dress had pick-ups on the bottom.

Re: Short Bridesmaid gowns
I had short bridesmaid dresses from JCrew. The color I used is no longer available, but the style is. I loved them! http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/Wedding_Bridesmaid/dresses/silktricotine/PRDOVR~62983/62983.jsp
ETA: My dress was very formal. Our wedding was in the summer, it was tented so not super formal, but it was a big church wedding.

My bridesmaids wore shorter dresses, I think it looked great, and they were very comfortable.

Re: Short Bridesmaid gowns
I think the whole thing should flow - Like, if your wedding is very laid back and informal, to ME, a big, grand ballgown is totally out of place - KWIM?
A vineyard wedding can go either very light and outdoorsy or very formal - If SHE is going formal, I think the dressed should follow suit -
That being said, SHE is the bride - and as a bridesmaid, i'd wear a potato sack if that's what the bride chose.........

Re: Short Bridesmaid gowns
Think of it this way - you'll definitely be able to wear a short brown or black dress again!
For my wedding, the girls wore short dresses from JCrew. I didn't feel the length of their dresses took away from the formality of the occassion at all, and I know they've all worn their dresses again.
