Should DH come?
I have my first appointment on Monday(6wks, 2 days). Should DH also come? Would be a waste for him to come to this one?

Re: Should DH come?
I would say yes - if he can. The doctor might try and find a heartbeat. And, I know my doctor likes to sit with me in his office before he does the first exam. He did this with DS#2 and with this pregnancy.

Would they try at this stage? Or is it too early?

Re: Should DH come?
I say yes too. My husband came to all my appointments in the beginning. He loved them. At 6 weeks we saw/heard a hearbeat...best appointment ever!

Re: Should DH come?
they didn't try to hear a heartbeat at my first, but it was a ton of Q&A with the doctor, and I was really glad DH could be there with me.

Re: Should DH come?
Kinda bummed...
I asked DH and I forgot, he has to take off work early that day (w/ out pay) for another appointment. If he came with me, he would have to go in late and leave early...all without pay.

Re: Should DH come?
I went for an internal at 5 weeks and she did not listen for the heartbeat. She said it way too early. Going at 7 weeks and that will be the first time.
I went to my app't alone. DH couldn't take off of work, and I honestly did not stress it.The internal is different than a regular sono, and where the bench was located in the room dh would have had front row seats

it depends on the doctor...with my 1st pregnancy, my first ultrasound was not until 10 weeks, this time, I was 7w,1d (differnt doctor)
I would call and they can tell you

Re: Should DH come?
I would call and see if they will do one. If not I wouldn't have him come. I went to all of my appts. alone except for the ultrasounds.

Re: Should DH come?
for me - the first appointment was crucial that Dave be there. The doc had a TON of questions for him about family history. Most of the answers I knew - but some I didn't and he had to answer....so i appreciated that he was there.
We did also have a sonogram and were able to see the baby for a good 15 - 20 minutes..

Re: Should DH come?
Depends on your doctor if you'll get a sono. DH is not able to make every appt so we chose the important ones. I went in at just after 6 weeks to confirm and they normally would not do a sono but he did an internal because I mentioned that I spotted once after conception (most likely from egg latching), just to be sure. Saw sac and heart flicker.
My office guides me... they suggested the 8 week as that was "the first sono" (and there was more to see than what I saw the two weeks prior) and they sat us down for medical history questioning. Next he came to my 20 week Level II because that's a really cool long sono. And the next time he'll come is 32 week growth sono, about 1/2 hour long. My regular monthly appointments are in and out, weight, blood pressure, measure belly, feel for top of uterus (on the outside), questions, not much that DH should miss work for. If my office had night or weekends, he'd come for sure.

Re: Should DH come?
Can he resched that appt for another day so he can come w/you?
I think it depends on the Dr. but at my first they had a bunch of med history ?'s, they did an ultrasound so I was happy DH was there.
Good luck

He can't, it's work related and we (all 3 of us) NEED him to go.

Re: Should DH come?
Honestly, my DH was unable to make a lot of my appointments with DD. It really was no big deal b/c I brought home pictures. He came to what he could, otherwise he was thrilled to see the photos and he was first to hold DD when she was born.
With #2 DH was all excited and came to appt #1, well there was nothing to see as it was too early. He was unable to make the second appointment when there was something to see, so again I brought home a picture. He loved hearing the heartbeat and all, but just some of my appointments were at difficult times and it just wasn't that big a deal to me - as long as he was there for the birth, thats all I cared about - LOL. And at that point I tuned everyone out anyway.

I would bring him, especially if they do a sono and can hear the heartbeat! It'll make it more real for him.

Re: Should DH come?
I would call and see what the appt. entails. Ask if you dh should come with you. My first appt. was just for bloodwork and an exam at just about 4 and 1/2 weeks. I had a sono appt. at exactly 6 weeks and we saw/heard the heartbeat. I was really glad that dh was there for that. Then at 7 weeks I had an OB appt. where the dr. talks to you about your pregnancy and dh came to that one too. Good Luck and Congratulations!!!!
