I started Molly early with tummy time but the ped. said he usually doesn't make the recommendation to parents until about 3 months. If your son hates it, don't do it. You could also try laying down and placing him, belly down, on your chest. He will still have to push himself up but may not mind it as much.

Re: Should I be concerned??

TOTALLY NORMAL! You have start with very short increments of time on their tummy. Infact, because Ava's been a belly sleeper since about 6 weeks, we almost never did tummy time durnig the day. She would basically give it to herself when she'd wake up at night or from a nap. She had beautiful head control from day one. Almost abnormally good! So we didn't worry about her not getting it.
Just do it consistently everyday and he'll last longer and longer week after week.

Re: Should I be concerned??

So many of them hate tummy time, its completely normal. If you have a Boppy, you could try propping him on his tummy in the Boppy. This way if his neck gets tired, he doesnt end up with his face in the blanket, which usually pushes them over the edge if they are already cranky about being on their tummy. Even if you do a few minutes, its good, hes still very small.

Re: Should I be concerned??

my son is 5 months and he still hates it. Whenever I put him on his belly, he immediately rolls over. But he has great head control, your little guy will be ok. Just keep trying.

bryan did this for awhile. I didnt think he was ever going to get it. I bought the boppy tummy time pillow and slowly but surely he started to push up a little more and not scream as much.

My son hated tummy time and I hardly did it with him, maybe like 4/5 times total! But he sat up at 5 months and started crawling at around 7 months, so don't worry too much about it!

That's how tummy time started in our house too. I realized that if I laid down next to him & talked he would calm down. Eventually he would go down on his belly without crying.

Re: Should I be concerned??

DD hated it too. I started putting her arms close together under her chest and she was able to start pushing up. It was more difficult for her with her arms out further.

Re: Should I be concerned??

My DD loves tummy time (thankfully) but my friends DD who is the same age HATES it and cries and cries. I think it all depends on the baby but, don't push it too much, he's still so young.
