Should I be concerned RE: gesturing (clapping, waving bye-bye)?
My son is ten months old today and he still doesn't wave bye bye or clap. A couple of weeks ago it seemed like he was almost doing both, then he stopped. He has started to take a few steps and I think he will be walking by the end of the week. I am not sure if one has anything to do with the other....
I am mostly concerned because he was very late responding to his name although he responds more frequently now than he had been. He still only responds about half the time. And then yesterday we were around a bunch of babies, all a few weeks younger than him and they could all either wave bye bye or clap. I am getting really nervous and I am considering speaking to the doctor about some type of early intervention.
Did anyone else have these problems and can they tell me what the end result was?
TIA.

I didn't have those problems, but all babies develop differently. I know it's hard not to be worried when you are around younger kids who are doing those things. One of my friends has a DD 3.5 weeks younger than DD and she has done everything later than my DD. I would ask your ped at your next scheduled appt to ease your mind. You never know, he could start doing those things tomorrow!

DS still doesnt always respond to his name he chooses when to ignore me and when not to.
In regards to the waving, DS was a little late with that as well. He would try to immitate us but didn't really associate waving hello and bye until after he was a year old.
If you are concerned talk to your ped, but honestly all babies develop differently. Don't compare!!! I know it is easier said than done. I was nervous b/c it seemed all the other LIF babies were saying a ton of words and DS didn't have many...all of a sudden at 16 1/2 months he had a word explosion. Now at 19 months he can count to 10 on his own

DD didn't start clapping until she was 12 months and the doctor said she was right on time. You could tell she would think about it as early as 11 months but just didn't feel like it I guess. Same with the waving. She only waves when she really wants to. She now waves at one of us if the other is holding her. But if asked to wave to a neighbor or something....she usually won't.

My Ds clapped around 6 months I htink, but then stopped, he moved on to learn other things. I find with My DS, he will learn something, but then stop doing it to learn something else, then goes back to the old skill..KWIM?
So maybe that is just what your DS is doing.

I think every baby develops slightly different. Chelsea wil be 10 months on the 22nd. She claps hands and waves bye bye but didn't roll over until she was almost 7 months and just started crawling last week.
Also she does respond to her name....as well as when we call Jake and Henry who are our dogs.

I don't think my DD clapped or waved at that age either.

Don't worry my ds is 10 months old and he doesn't clap, wave or point yet. The dr wasn't concerned at all. He does answer to his name, crawl with belly off the ground and blow kisses. babies have thein own agenda. They don't like to follow what the book says they SHOULD be doing. I am sure your ds is fine. He just follows his own rules
