Should I combine their parties?

Jack will be 3 Oct 19 and Molly will be 1 on Oct 25. I want to give Molly her own day, but since all of our family lives out of town, I know that Molly's party will turn into Jack opening presents also. Part of that bothers me becasue he had his own 1st b-day party, but I know that is slightly obsessive and I;m probably just overthinking this, huh? Would you do a combo party even though it is Molly's 1st birthday?

Re: Should I combine their parties?

I would give Molly her own 1st birthday, but combine them from next year on.

I have a cousin and 2 of her kids are Sept 1 and Sept 3 (they are now 2 & 4). It's the same people...and this year she did a combined party...so much easier for us (as guests) Chat Icon

I'm not a mom, so you can TOSS MY OPINION RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW, but I think that because they're so young, and because you have a lot of OOT family, it is completely acceptable for you to have a combined BD party. The kids will be none the wiser, and it will be less work for you. Go for it, and feel no guilt!

I would say just the opposite. At 1, she won't know the difference, but when they get older they may resent not having their own day. My siblings (twins) and I were pretty close with b-days (and of course, they were very close.... Chat Icon Chat Icon ), and we shared b-days some times. None of us liked the fact that we didn't get our "own" day, and we had to share it. Luckily, our DS and DD are about 3 weeks apart, so it's much easier to have different parties. We are never going to combine them. First b-days are for the parents, not DC, so this year you can definitely do whatever is best for you and the family.
