Should I focus on more strength training at this point to just lose weight?

I feel so confused about fitness lately. I've been working out about 4 days on average a week. I usually do more cardio than weights, but do both. I journal what I eat and do cheat here and there but will just add extra cardio when I do that. I got on the scale and have gained 4 pounds. Really????? I was so close to being back in the 120's now I'm 134lbs. Although I felt good, NOW I feel horrible because it is always about a number for me.

Question is... should I focus more time on strength training and just use cardio for warming up???? I'm looking for weight lose primarily right now.

I might focus on training workouts that incorporate both. For instance, maybe do some weight training circuits that invlove doing a training move and then in between jump rope for a minute or do mountain climbers or sprint on the treadmill. I wouldnt give up either but I have always been told that if it comes down to training or cardio go with the training. Hope that helps!

this does make sense but is hard to do since my workouts are gym only. I guess I'll try to go back to P90X. Now I just have to find time to do it at home.Chat Icon

I agree! And you can def. do it at the gym.

I'll run for a quarter mile as fast as I can..then get off the treadmill and do some resistance training or functional training. Then get back on- do another quarter mile and go back for more (I might do burpees, pushups, modified pull-ups, etc..)> The biggest thing is I vary ALOT!!

I could see this being stressful (for me)moving about the gym. What if there were no treadmills when I wanted to get back on? What is the jumpropes are being used, or there's no floor space available? That would totally throw me off. I think I'll try to do whatever I can with P90X in the AM and then do the gym depending on what I wasn't able to do with P90X.

Thanks ladies.

I do this at my gym..not at home. You have to be flexible if things are taken or occupied. It's ok, just adjust. Use a different machine or do jumping jacks or burpees or something. It definitely can be done!

However long it takes me to complete the circuit 3-4 times. each circuit I usually do has around 10 exercises including the cardio moves. I do each exercise for 30 seconds or some of the workouts I will do each exercise for a minute straight or do 15 sec on, 15 seconds rest, 15 seconds on and the move tot he next one. After doing all 10 exercises I rest for ac ouple minutes and then repeat the entire circuit.

I try to do circuits that have lower body and upper body moves in it so my entire body is getting a workout
