I didn't really think about it until I saw others posting their pictures.

We didn't. It gets very expensive going for professional pics. We've done it so far for his christening and for his 1st christmas. The next time we are doing it is for his 1st birthday. You order so many portraits because every pose is soooooooo cute and then they just end up sitting in the package envelope they came. I told DH that since we paid for these portraits we better start hanging them up.

Re: Should I have professional pictures taken at 6 months?

We go monthly. I know we are crazy but it is the neatest thing to look at how much they really do change monthly. I am a Smile Saver (pays for sitting fees) at Sears and I use a coupon each month and I only spend up to $12 each month and we normally have a good coupon that we get a package of 35 pictures. Yesterday I also got a Collage for $10 because they are on sale right now.

Re: Should I have professional pictures taken at 6 months?

I took professional for her christening, and xmas pics.

I do take a pic on her monthly b days. It's really cool to see how she's changed over each month and i put them in a separate photo album.

You don't have to take pics. Prof pics are expensive, and I go to picture people and even the 40 bucks i spend is too much when i can take those same pics at home :)

I am getting her next prof done when she turns 1.

Re: Should I have professional pictures taken at 6 months?

We've only had one pro photo session. We were not happy with the process, the background, the photos, or the price. DS wasn't happy, so the photos didn't come out very nice.

What I do, is use various backgrounds around the house (DCs furniture, walls from various rooms that I've painted, favorite blankets, etc.). By doing it at home, the photos have a background that is meaningful and significant, DC is happy since they are familiar with the surroundings, and if they aren't, we take a break and try again in an hour or so.

I scheduled the monthly photos for the first year for both DC, and I am thrilled at the results, and they are always smiling, and the quality is just as good as the pros.

Just my $.02

Thanks for all your suggestions. I do take her "monthly" b-day picture at home. I do like the Sears deal. I'm going to have to look into that. I plan on having her Easter pictures done professionally and that might make more sense then the $200 I spend at Picture People.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Should I have professional pictures taken at 6 months?

I was just talking to DH about this - this morning.

I took Ali for her 3 month pictures and that is it so far.
I plan on taking her for her Birthday - but I keep wondering about should I have taken her in between.

He says you take pictures of her everyday - which I do, but it isn't the same as professional pictures.

I am so torn about taking her.

How do you find out about these Sears deals?

Personally, I hate them! They always remind me of Victorian Funeary Photos...

I personally wouldn't take my kids to them. I would rather stage them at home and have fun doing them!

But loads of people LOVE them, so if you want to...go ahead!!!

You go to sears once and that's it. They always send you coupons. I see coupons sometimes in the baby magazines.

Nrthshgrl did Jordana's 6 month photos, and they are better than her 3 month professional photos. They are still some of my favorite pictures and the one I have hanging in my living room.

Whenever Nrthshgrl statrts here photography business, I'll be her first client. Chat Icon

I don't know that I would have, but DD's 6 month b-day came about a month before Easter, so I figured that was a good excuse--so they were Easter/7 month pics.

Her 3 month b-day was around Christmas, so the same idea applied. So, I did these two as well as a first birthday picture to complete the first year.

If you want to take her then you should do it, but I don't think it's a necessity by any means. Brendan is almost 11 months and I have yet to take him for professional pictures. I actually prefer my own photos to professional ones with props and fake backgrounds.

Re: Should I have professional pictures taken at 6 months?

I paid for Kiddie Kandids once then I joined the Picture People portrait club and they give me a free 8X10 or 10X13 just about every month. I just take my free one most of time and leave. They scan pretty well and we get a great pic once a month!

We haven't done any professional pictures, and I will not be doing any professional pictures. I'm not into that whole posed thing for babies. I like the ones I take, no matter how blurry or dark they may beChat Icon

DITTO DITTO, well we have done professionals, but to me a POSED pic of a child is not a child being a child! I just dont see the AW in professional pics Chat Icon Chat Icon (besides the quality of the photos, well NOT many of these stores, my digital camera is better than some of them, and those nasty props!
