Should I skip the manicure?

DH and I are going to Aruba on Friday. My recent gel manicure ruined my nails and they have all broken and are extremely short right now. I usually like brighter colors when I go away, but I think it will look funny with how short they are. Should I skip the manicure all together? Go bright? Or just go super light colored?

Should I skip the manicure?

I keep my nails super short at all times, I don't like them to hang over my fingertips and I get bright colors all the time. I actually think the brighter colors look best on shorter nails.

Should I skip the manicure?

I also had my nails destroyed from a gel mani. If it were me, I'd do a manicure but a light color, b/c I feel like when your nails are ruined they're kinda bumpy and uneven, and a bright color will just highlight that... a sheer color, like Madamoiselle or Power lunch will look polished but not highlight any imperfections.

That's kind of what was leaning towards. I'm actually a little surprised how many people still like bright colors on short nails.

I usually don't do bright colors on my nails, mostly b/c I type all day and I chip it right away. I wish I could handle some color!

But during that time period when I was nursing my nails back to health I usually wore clear or pale pink.

This is me too. When I have long nails I end up scratching my kids with them...haha

Anyway, I wear bright colors all the time on my nails.

I'm confused by what having short nails has to do with wearing a bright color or not??

Me too! They look so much better on my short nails than when I have them a bit longer.

I like color on short nails, I just think it looks gross when you are growing back your nails after having tips or gels, b/c your nails are all bumpy and peely, and I think that color just makes it look worse. Clear or light colors mask it a little better.

Should I skip the manicure?

There is a huge difference between having short nails and having lumpy, ruined nails IMO. I like bright colors on short nails. But if they are that damaged, I guess I would stick to a lighter color.

I think bumpy peely nails look bad at any lengthChat Icon I just took my gel off to give my nails a break and I just filed and buffed them and they are smooth again

Mine took forever to get better, but thats probably b/c I picked them off instead of soaking them!

Please, please, please never pick or peel off Gel or Shellac...or any enhancement, it can peel off the top layer of your nail!

Hydrating the nail while wearing gel is very important. Cuticle and nail oil should be used daily. After removing gel or shellac nails feel thin because of they lack water, cuticle oil will help. CND Solar oil is my favorite.

For regular polish you might want to try a base coat that is for sensitive or peeling nails, or a ridge filler before the color coat, but I love bright colors and dark colors on short nails!

I also like how bright colors look on short nails, especially when I have a tan.
