Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
My DD would never take a pacifier but if she did, I would have probably tried to limit its use to sleep times and public breakdowns

Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
I would and have. DD is almost 10 months and now that her two front teeth are coming in I gave it back to her to soothe the gums. I am going to take it away during the day unless I see her really missing it by putting her hand in her mouth. After her bottom teeth came in I took it away and she didnt miss it but now that the top are coming in she needed it. Its a personal decision, do what you feel is best.

Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
he is getting his 2nd top tooth so ive noticed if the paci isnt in then it will be something else ie toy right now the rubber mat edge anything really but he dosent need it to sleep though am i starting a bad habit ?????i dont want him to be dependant on it but with the teething im alittle more sympathetic to him having it.

Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
My sister did this with my niece - she was very dependent on the pacifier and I know her intentions are meant well - she constantly tries to let me know how hard it was for her to break my niece from the habit.
If he doesn't cry when you take it out, then I can't see the harm in trying

Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
DD only uses it for naps, bedtime and if she has a crying fit from falling or getting upset at something or if she cries in the car. Other than that, she doesn't get it.
If he is okay with not having it all the time, let him chew on toys, etc. to soothe his gums.

Gem, I would say naps and bedtime and if he is having a breakdown of course. I think teething counts as somewhat of a breakdown though, poor lil gums...try to limit it and see how he does. Good luck

Re: Should my son have periods of time throughout the day WITHOUT the paci??????
My son always uses it for bedtime, naps and car, and I find that I pop it in his mouth throughout the day when he fusses. I'm going to start limiting the amount of time he has it during the day.
Good luck!

i'd try to limit it but do what's best for you. if it's a teething thing try the stage 1 of these teethers, it's kinda like a paci shape.

he wouldnt take one as a newborn and has only become attached since teething so if your baby isnt interested now maybe once teething starts you will find that it soothes them then. my son also uses his fingers to soothe himself too.

I only use the paci if DS is having a meltdown in public.

Try to limit it. I didn't and now my son(who is almost 2) is way too attached to the paci than he should be. I've been trying to limit it and it's so hard. I dread the day I have to take it away from him entirely
