Shutterfly email
This is what I just sent them. I'm holding my breath waiting for a response. LOL
To Whom It May Concern:
I received this email this morning and am shocked that a company would find it necessary or appropriate to send such an email to someone who has never identified him or herself as a parent on your website. In fact, I have struggled with infertility for years and have recently suffered a miscarriage after spending a ridiculous sum of money on fertility treatments. Unfortunately for me, and many like me, I do not know and may never know how "amazing' it is to "bring a new life into the world."
Sending such an email blast to people who have never taken any steps to identify themselves as parents is grossly irresponsible, highly insensitive and unnecessarily hurtful. Please take this opportunity to review your procedures to ensure that such emails are not sent blindly.
Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Re: Shutterfly email
I think its a glitch. Everyone I know got it. A friend and I were just discussing this morning because we were both due last week and thought it was something we had inadvertently signed up before miscarrying, but then I found out a lot of others got it too.

O M F G!!! I thought I was alone there! At first I thought they sent it to me because I recently designed birth announcements and printed with them.
Guess not.

Shutterfly email
Congratulations! Welcome to Shutterfly There's nothing more amazing than bringing a new life into the world. As a new parent you're going to find more to love, more to give and more to share - we're happy to help you every step of the way. Now its time to send thank you cards. Find one that matches your birth announcement.
Clearly it was a glitch. But a really bad one to make.

Re: Shutterfly email
This is ALMOST as bad as my RE's office f*****g up email lists on Mother's Day and sending a joyous and frilly "Happy Mother's Day" email with pics of little babies to the wrong list!!! They did quickly send out an apology to say it was meant to go to the graduates but still. Not cool.

OMG. . . that is horrible. Seriously, they, of all people, should know better than to be so stupidly careless.

Shutterfly email
Saw this in an article online about the Shutterfly email:
Shutterfly wouldn’t give specifics on how they identify which of their users have new babies, and how this particular email wound up missing the mark. Did they buy or make a bad data broker list? Or did they just send this email to the wrong list? Shutterfly did release an apology. “Earlier this morning, we unintentionally sent out an e-mail in error to some of our customers. We deeply apologize for this intrusion and any offense this may have caused,” says spokesperson Nicole Stier. “The intent of the email was to target customers who have recently had a baby and may be interested in using our products to commemorate that life event. It was unintentionally sent to a larger base.”
Lame. I didn't use Shutterfly often, but I don't foresee myself ever using them again. Perhaps a retraction/apology email should have been sent to that "larger base." Idiots.
