Sick of being taken advantage of!
So my boss routinely takes credit for my ideas...I figure I'm paying my dues, etc., but today he emailed me something asking for my ideas, I emailed him back, and he forwards my email to 6 very important people, however he added "I PROPOSE WE..." That's right, didn't even bother to change my wording.
What do you do in a case like this? I felt like writing back "what a great idea! why didn't I think of that!" but I kind of like being employed, so...

Did he keep your email on the bottom of the email as he forwarded it? i.e. Could the recipients see that you wrote the text? Or did he cut and paste your wording into a new email?

Nope, cut and pasted into a new email. Someone already wrote back "Excellent suggestion!!!!"

Re: Sick of being taken advantage of!
it's time for a meeting with your boss. Really, this has to stop. Giving credit where credit is due is important for a happy working relationship.
What if you left the firm and took your ideas with you? He would have to come up with them himself.
It's important to work as a team but you have it in writing to prove the ideas were yours. You are happy to come up with the ideas and share the credit for implementing them but you will never ge anywhere if someone takes the credit for your work.
Not fair and not right and I wouldn't stand for it one more minute.

Was this email sent internally or to clients? Is this person responsible for your review and does he credit you asan asset then?

I'm having a "Working Girl" memory here.
Definitely time for a meeting. Take the credit for your ideas. Let your boss know it's not going to fly that he/she is taking your thunder...
Good luck!!

Internally, and he is my boss and directly responsible for my review. He does credit me as an asset and when it comes to review time he does praise me, but I feel like if he gave me credit when it is due, my name would be recognized by people outside of my office instead of just those within my office. This email went to a bunch of people outside of my office who do not know me well. And he CC'd me on it...It's not even like he is hiding it.

ITA. The number one rule of thumb I've learned though is don't write anything in an email that you don't want forwarded - you never know who is going to see it. So, if you write something just choose your words carefully. And actually, this is where I would start. Maybe say something like:
Dear boss, I'm so glad the idea was well-received!
You know I'm always happy to be a team player and share my ideas, but I also feel like I have been dis counted all together in this situation. I would like to sit down and talk to you about this. when do you have some time?

I would talk to your boss, and if this doesn't get you anywhere, go to your boss's boss. Keep a record of your emails and what he is doing. Also if you have an HR dept I would consider taking it to them.

I would just tread carefully. I am not sure of the politics at your office, but rather than getting confrontational, it might be better to ask him how you can take on more or join in more, that kind of thing.
Like I said, I have NO IDEA how it is at your office or how fed up you are, etc. but it might be worth it to try to settle it with him especially if he is giving you good reviews and such before taking it to HR. If it is a big company, you don't want to be known as a trouble maker no matter how talented you are. It's just a turnoff. Unless of course this guy is always totally out of line with it.
