sigh... children and death
how do you help an 8 year old cope with the death of a goldfish he's had for one day?
He won't even put his bathing suit on right now b/c 'water reminds him of his goldfish...'

Aww, maybe go to the store and let him pick out a new one? Not a "replacement" but a new friend to love

Re: sigh... children and death
Just make sure that DS understands that goldfish are not the same as people. Sometimes, if you say "Goldi was sick" or "Goldi was old" and that's why they died, they will parallel the fish to Mommy and Daddy. If you get the sniffles, or mention "Oh, I feel soooo old today.", they may panic and think something bad is going to happen.
Our dog is very old, and we know we're going to have to explain to DC what happened when he does die. DS was OK when the cat died, and he was 3. I'm hoping he'll be OK now that he's 5.

Poor Aidan! But it's so great that he is sensitive!!!!
Robbie had a goldfish when he was 5 - to help him transition to the new house. When it died he asked if we could make fish soup.
But.. unfortunately.. Robbie had a little too much practice with people dying before Finola bit it.
