Death Question

If you could find out the exact date of your death, would you?

Why or why not?

Re: Death Question

yes Chat Icon

I don't like surprises

eta: If I knew that I was going to drop dead at 40, I'd want to make sure I do everything i want to do before I go.

Most people assume that they have years to come, so they don't take that european vacation, or buy the more expensive car....

Re: Death Question

No, because I think it would negatively affect how I live my life, rather than positively.

I as going to say no, but if I knew I was absolutely going to die on a certain day & no chain of events could change that, then I think I'd be less afraid to fly, but I'd also go to the doctor less.

I'd be afraid to do anything - and what do you do with that information? Do you call your mother to say good bye? I don't think I would be able to bear the thought of telling DH that today is it. Chat Icon

Re: Death Question

I would never want to find out. I don't like surprises but that is the one thing I would not want to know.

Re: Death Question

No, I wouldn't want to always have it on my mind (the day and time).. I know I would obsess about it and I want to live each day to the fullest and I don't think I would be able to with that on my mind.

Good point. I would stop worrying about every tiny ache and pain and flying and driving, etc.

But I guess it would depend on the date they gave me.

And I would want to know DH's date too!!

Re: Death Question

I would want to know. I hate surprises and I would want to make sure that I got to do everything that I want to in life. You never know when you might die. For some it may be a lot earlier than expected. We always think we have plenty of time to accomplish our goals but this way I would know exactly how much time I have.

Can you tell I am a planner? Chat Icon

Re: Death Question

While I am the definition of a "planner" no I would not want to know.

My mother died at 38 and I am 35... it haunts me every birthday to think she only had X amount of years to live. My Dad had a massive stroke at 57. He lived but has multiple disabilities.

No way, wouldn't want to know but at the same I live everyday to the fullest.Chat Icon
