Signed to do our kitchen!!! Need opinions...
It will cost a lot but I think it's worth it. I've been in the house ten years and have wanted to change it since I moved in.
My question is this - we are probably leaving the floor, which is wood stained this color:
We are getting maple cabinets. What color cabinets would coordinate nicely with the floor? We don't want white or anything painted, just stained. Any ideas???

my Dh is in the cabinet business so i asked him for you.. he said there is a HUGE variety of maple cabinets.. perhaps a nutmeg or cinnomom color. He said to ask for samples to bring home to put up against your floor. lots of luck and congratulations on your upcomming new kitchen

I agree.
My FIL has been in the kitchen design business for decades. Maple is just the wood... you can go with practically a rainbow (ok, maybe not a rainbow ) of stains, finishes, glazes.
I know my FIL has a separate box of "finish swatches" (for lack of a better term) for each type of wood his cabinets come in. So he has a separate box for birch, maple, cherry, oak and in each box there is a separate wood swatch (same thickness as the cabinet doors) that shows what each stain would look like on that particular wood. For example, I pretty much narrowed my wood choice down to two and then debated over two different types of stains on each wood. He let me carry the swatches around. The same color stain looked slightly different on each wood.
****Oh, and the swatch should be aged slightly. I think all of his boxes are at least a few years old so you can see how the color will hold up.
Ask to borrow a swatch and hold it up to the natural light in your kitchen and not just the showroom. Also, bring the swatch to pick out your backsplash, granite, flooring etc.
HTH.

Re: Signed to do our kitchen!!! Need opinions...
Thanks - he's coming Tuesday to measure and help plan the layout. He said he'd bring samples to the house so I can see how they look here. I was just wondering what shades would look best. I don't want extremes (no white, or black/espresso) and I don't want the natural maple color. I'm wondering if I can get a color similar to the floor or if that would be too much, and what other colors would coordinate with the floor. Decisions, decisions!

You are going to have a very hard time matching your cabinets to your floor so either go with a completely contrasting cabinet color or change the floor. Why not put in ceramic tile or stone floor?

I know matching will be impossible. We can't really do a tile floor because there is no definitive end to the room and we just can't figure out where the tile floor would end (difficult to explain without seeing the floor plan).
