SIL VENT - SICK KIDS
We went to the MIL's house for dinner the other day, SIL was not supposed to join us but showed up with her 3 kids.
I noticed my 4yr old niece sneezing with snot all over her hand and coughing. So I told her to go wash her hands and I asked SIL is she sick? And she goes yeah, she was up all night. UH HELLOOOOO why are you bringing a sick kid around my 10mth old son????
Last night DS was up all night crying because now he is sick, his nose is dripping, he is wheezing and I had to sleep in my bed to get rest.
I cant wait to say something to SIL.....I would never bring my sick child around anyone else's. My sister told me I am overreacting (she dont have kids yet). AM I WRONG?
Also, can I give a 10mth any sort of cold medicine?

Re: SIL VENT - SICK KIDS
That stinks. I would definitely say something. I probably would have walked out of the house immediately after I saw the niece was sick. It was probably too late anyway though. Your DS probably had already caught it. DD had her first cold a few weeks ago when she was just shy of 9 months. I used the humidifier. The ped's office said to just do that and/or bring her in the bathroom with the hot shower running (steam.) I also read I could have given her the saline nose drops (Little Noses.) But didn't do that.

Re: SIL VENT - SICK KIDS
We used the saline nose drops when Matty was about 6 months old? I think he was that age- they helped- when he woke up in the middle of the night I gave him a bottle- which he had stopped (no more night feedings) but I was afraid he was thirsty from a stuffed up nose. At this age, I would give water during the night.....I hope your baby feels better soone!

awww...I hope he feels better soon.
Aside from it not being healthy for others to take your obviously sick child out, it is not healthy for the sick child. I am by no means a germaphobe, but if your kid is not feeling well, stay home and let them rest up so they can get better quicker.

No, you're not wrong. Parents need to be responsible, and respectful of other families. We've canceled activities when DC were sick. Yes, I would have liked to go to the event, but we didn't think it was fair to other DC and parents to intentionally spread an illness around.
I mean, kids will get sick on a regular basis, but why instigate it?

Re: SIL VENT - SICK KIDS
If your kids is sick, you call & ask if the moms for their feelings on it. If they're really sick, they should be at home resting & in bed.
If it's only a cold, I wouldn't be concerned unless it was a newborn.

Re: SIL VENT - SICK KIDS
I know a cold stinks, but I wouldn't give any medicine. Just plug in a humidifier and use saline drops in his nose.

I would be very upset - I would never bring my child if she was sick around any other children or even adults - that is just inconsiderate and cruel. You are not overreacting at all!

ITA!
There's not much you can do with babies with colds besides elevate mattress, put a cool mist humidifier in their room.
I also use baby vicks, vapor bath and benadryl for congestion.
My PED absolutely says no cold meds for kids under 2, and prefers no cold meds for kids under 5.
