Silly doctor question
Is an "internal medicine" doctor the same as a regular family practice doctor?

No, they are similar but not the same - a Family practitioner is one who is more generalized and will see people of all ages including children. An internist only sees adults (children would see a pediatrician). They also often specialize in something else such as geriatric, gastroenterology, allergy,cardiology etc, but might not actually work as an actual gastroenterologist.
I prefer to see an internist over a family practitioner.
