Silly formal event question with kids

We have a Bat Mitzvah this weekend. I didn't even think of it till now, but I guess I'll bring my diaper bag with me. Chat Icon
My almost 5 yr old is fine, but I always like to throw in an extra pair of underwear and for my 2 yr old I need diapers and wipes.

I bring it when we go out to nice dinners so I guess the only option is a big purse, but either one is still big. I never have taken them to a wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah before. I like my cute dressy purses that is just big enough for a phone and lipstick Chat Icon

ETA - it is a nice diaper bag, but seems funny at cocktail hour. I'll just have to throw it in the corner so I can hold my drink and watch the kids (who will be so busy playing with their cousins anyway).

Why not just leave it in the car. If you truly need anything in there, run out and get it when the time comes. That's what I do. I hate lugging around my diaper bag.

I would leave it in the corner as you mentioned - i doubt anyone will notice it
i wouldnt want to run to the car for a diaper change, esp if its valet parking

Yeah, that's my thought. I have a feeling it's valet and I'm not going to run out every time I need to change a diaper or need a wipe. I have a feeling I'll need the wipes close by... Nice suits, my boys at cocktail hour with lots of food to choose from, juice, ketchup on fries, ice cream, cake.... Chat Icon

I just lug the bag around. Just stick it in the corner like you suggested.

I brought DS to my sister's wedding and we had the diaper bag with us. I could not imagine sending the valet to the car every time you needed something. You'll have 2 little kids so nobody will judge you for having a big diaper bag. You can always coat check it, if you don't want to carry it.

You can barrow my all black TB tote.

I would also bring a separate evening bag. There is no reason why you can't have your own bag.

bring your usual dressy bag for yourself, and then put the essentials for the kids in a black tote bag or purse (something that doesn't scream diaper bag) and leave it in the corner at cocktail hour and under your table at the reception.

I would probably coat check it and go get it for diaper changes.

I would bring a nice tote that doesn't scream diaper bag or a bigger purse. Put your cute little one inside and you can leave the bigger bag under the table during the event and just pull it out as needed.

Re: Silly formal event question with kids

I have a nice structured tote (black leather, happens to be a designer label, but doesn't need to be) that I use in these sorts of situation, so it still looks ultra dressy. Do you have any nice totes from your pre-mommy days?
