Silly question about bringing baby home....
Do you bring the infant carrier in when its time to leave and then put the baby in or do you bring the baby out and put him/her in the infant carrier? Just curious....i get nervous.....that carrier looks complicated and DH and I are both so clueless!

You have to bring the infant carrier in when it's time to bring that baby home and then someone from the hospital (or in just our case at St Catherine's) walks you out and checks that you have the car seat installed and signs off.

That's what we had to do also.

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
At NS Manhasset, they would not let you bring the baby to the car in the seat. DH had to get the car and wait for us at the entrance, I was wheeled down by a nurse and had to hold Sarah in my arms.
We were a nervous wreck putting her in the seat for the first time in front of the hospital. Nobody was around for us to ask if we had her in right. But it worked out.

Thats where I will be giving birth and this scares the hell out of me too. I feel like I have no clue how to put the baby in and then adjust the straps!

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
I know. It almost put me over the edge when they told DH to take the seat back down to the car. I wish we'd practiced ahead of time. Maybe take a teddy bear or something to practice ahead of time? We knew how to put the seat in the base and take it out, but didn't think about how to get her into it. It's actually really easy, but when you're already nervous it makes it harder.

At Good Samaritan we were given the option - we could bring the seat inside or leave it in the car.

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
We didn't know how to work the seat so the guy that wheeled me out in the wheelchair fixed the straps for us.

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
If you have a problem just bring it into the room and practice and always ask a nurse . One of them has to have children. It iss very easy and you will get trhe hang of it very quickly along with everything else....

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
I gave birth in NJ and we brought the seat in. We had no clue how to put the baby in so we called the nurse for help and she said they couldn't help us. Now it seems so funny that we couldn't figure it out.

Ask your dr. and he can inform you of the hospitals practice.... He may also advise you on your concerns... GL!

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
I gave birth at LIJ and we had to bring the carrier into the hospital to takethe baby out. I had played around with it many of times before I went into the hospital to get the practice of how to use it. also I went to my local police station to make sure the base was properly installed

Re: Silly question about bringing baby home....
Isn't it funny that all the security that the hospitals have for the newborns that noone can help you with the carseat. My son at South Nassau had an alarm on the belly button clamp that would lock the doors if he was to close, but when it came time to leave they didn't care about the car seat at all.
