Sinus Problems. Updated
Did any of you have sinus problems during pregnancy? If so, what did you do to allevate some of the pain?

Re: Sinus Problems
Once again...me me me
My dr. told me to use saline nasal spray. It did nothing for me though. She said it if was really bad I could use Afrin. When it got realllly bad, I used Afrin. Luckilly I didnt have to use too much of it and within a few weeks my sinuses calmed down and I could breathe.
But for my entire pregnancy, I have been blowing my nose and sneezing, its like allergies.

Re: Sinus Problems
I have had a ton of sinus problems with my pregnancy. I finally saw an ENT and he told my that I have and some women get "pregnancy rhinosistus" (sp), after he did a scope and battery of tests on me. This is when the nasal passages and sinuses become inflamed due to the extra hormones. Here is what he suggested:
1- get a humidifier 2- use Ocean or saline spray 3 times a day or as often as you need to. 3- when you dust your house or clean it, wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth 4-vacuum and dust 2 times a week at least 5- clean all sheets and bedding twice a week 6- get a prescription for flonase if it is unbearable and use it only when you can't take it anymore.
I hope this helps. A lot of what is said is recommended for people who have allergies. I have been doing all of these steps since seeing the ENT and I have not had any more sinus problems...Thank God! Feel free to FM me if you have more questions. The ENT was very helpful. Feel Better

Re: Sinus Problems
Mine is not soo much snotty but more serious sinus pressure in my gums, and under my eye. Last night it woke me up every two minutes. The pain is bearable but if I could fnid a way to make it go away, I would REALLLY apreeciate it.

This is how mine started and my regular Dr. gave me antibiotics because it turned into a sinus infection. The ENT said to do what he suggested (list is in my other post) as soon as symptoms start to ward off a sinus infection.

Oh I had this in my 1st trimester, turns out I had a sinus infection and my dr put my on antibiotics and another type of pregnancy-safe nasal spray.

Maybe TMI...But if the mucus that comes out of your nose is yellow/greenish it is a sinus infection. If it is clear, it is hormonal. If it is clear, use the saline spray that should help. If it is anything but clear, see your Dr.

Re: Sinus Problems
I called my OB's office (I had to call about my AFP anyway) and she said that she will ask the doc if he wants me to come in or if he just wants to prescribe something for me over the phone. Either way, I am pretty excited that I might have some sort of relief by the end of the day.
ETA- Thanks for your help ladies, I really appreciate it.

Re: Sinus Problems
I had sinus problems prior to pregnancy which have only gotten worse since I've been pregnant. I pretty much just deal with it unless I get a sinus headache which I'll pop some tylenol and sudafed.

Re: Sinus Problems
Me too! I've had allergies real bad for years. I stopped taking my antihistamine when I found out we were PG and everything seemed ok during the 1st trimester, but lately it's gotten positively unbearable and it's not my usual sinus problem alone. It is causing an unbearable cough that keeps me up at night. It's horrible. Everyone keeps saying just try to deal with it, but do they have any idea how hard that is. How can I keep getting up and going to work everyday when I'm not sleeping at night. UGH! I definitely feel your pain. literally

Re: Sinus Problems
Just wanted to update this thread. The never bothered to call me back on the 7th and never called me most of hte day on the 8th. At about 3pm onthe 8th I went in to get my blood drawn for the AFP test so I asked to speak with Twyla (the nurse MANAGER I spoke with the day before) and was told no problem....then I was taken to her office. When I walked in her office, she looked at me like I had three heads and then said "You have some questions for me" and I said "No, I am [insert full anme here]" thinking that w ould spark her memory...instead I got a blacnk stare...I went on "I called you yesterday about my sinus infection, twice actually" Nurse continues to stare blankly at me for another minute and then proceeds to ask ME where MY chart is (DO I work here, how the hell am I supposed to know?) ME: " According to you yesterday you were going to put it on the doctors desk to see if I needed to come in for an appt or if he could just call me in an antibiotic" Her: "ooh, wait here" 20+ minutes pass Nurse returns Take some Claritan D and call me if you XYZ, ME: "I have XZY" Her: ::::Walking out and ignoring me:: SOOOO I go and get Claritan D and guess what, it's not working!! I'm ticked off so I went to my primary care physician today...guess what I got diagnosed with in less than 15 minutes...
You guess it, a sinus infection
At least NOW I FINALLY have some medicine.
UGH!
